Building a Bold Identity for an Automotive Workshop

Context

The Boring Garage is an automotive workshop in Southern California. The name is deliberately ironic, and the brand needed to carry that confidence while still looking like a serious, trustworthy place to leave a vehicle.

Challenge

Automotive workshops often rely on generic marks such as wrenches, pistons and flames that make one garage look like the next. The goal was an identity that feels engineered and precise, is instantly recognisable, and works across everything a garage uses day to day, from signage and uniforms to outdoor advertising.

Approach

The core of the identity is a monogram built by merging the letters T, B and G into a single mark. Its angled, forward-leaning strokes suggest speed and motion, and its sharp cuts with rounded corners give it the feel of a machined part. The mark is paired with a bold, wide wordmark and the tagline "Where nothing we build is boring," which turns the irony in the name into a promise about the quality of the work.
The palette is kept to signal red, white and near-black, so the brand stays strong at small and large sizes. Outline versions of the monogram became a supporting graphic device used on posters, signage and apparel, and the mark repeats cleanly as a pattern.
