I worked with HOOH Hops to create a series of educational posters about hops—yep, one of the ingredients for making beer! Thanks to their essential oils, called terpenes, there are many different varieties of hops that produce a range of flavours and aromas. This gives brewers room to come up with nuanced flavours and bittering techniques in their brewing process.

HOOH Hops wanted incorporate education as part of the brand, so I helped to develop hopp[ED]™, the educational sub-brand used to showcase information about hops. I illustrated the posters and formatted the info into fun and accessibly-informative posters.

The first poster showcases the anatomy of a hop and how the terpenes are nested inside amongst the layered leaves, or the bract.

There is a long list of potential terpenes that show up in hops, but not all hops contain traceable amounts of them. This poster highlights the top 7 terpenes most commonly found in hops.

Hops don't grow on vines, they grow on bines! A cousin of the vine, they climb by wrapping around a vertical object as opposed to latching onto a surface with tendrils. Bet ya didn't know that 😁.
