Bringing God of War to Life with AR Filters

Objective: To create an engaging and interactive experience for fans of the popular video game God of War using augmented reality technology.
Background: As a fan of the God of War series, I was inspired to create a fan art piece as a stylized illustration of the main character, Kratos. Using Adobe Illustrator, I created a minimalistic illustration of Kratos in both his Greek and Norse forms.
Challenge: The next step was to bring this illustration to life through animation. Using Adobe After Effects and the Duik Bassel tool, I created a 2D rig, posed the illustration, and created controller joysticks. I also added flame and eye color effects to bring the animation to life.
Solution: Rather than simply creating an animation for my portfolio, I decided to take the project one step further by developing an AR filter that would bring the illustration to life when scanned using the Instagram camera.
To achieve this, I rendered the animation as 12 FPS PNG sequence, to reduce file size and imported it into Meta Spark Studio AR.
By printing the stickers and publishing the effect, I created an engaging and interactive AR experience for fans of the God of War series.
Result: The AR filter was a hit among the series' fans, providing a unique and engaging way to bring the fan art to life. Using vector illustration, animation, and augmented reality allowed me to create a dynamic and memorable experience for fans like me.
This project was fun, mostly the experimentation, showcasing my illustration, animation, and AR development skills.
