Panco Pizza needs an upgrade and decided to tap into its online revenue to solidify its stance in the digital space.
01. DEFINING
Problem
Panco Pizza does not have an online identity which already limits its sales. Customers feel a disconnect from the brand and experience lots of difficulties selecting a pizza they like, the brand menu doesn't suit the consumer's taste.
The Problems led me to these three statements:
How can I ensure users always have something to order?
How can I ensure a seamless user experience?
How can I create features that increase the sales revenue?
Solution
I designed Panco Pizza, a mobile app that empowers users by providing a create your pizza feature which allows users to alter their pizza to their own taste hereby creating a superhero and genius feeling in the minds of the users.
I also added a feature called the Recipe page where users can upload the pizza they created and view those created by other users.
The reason for this feature was to create a viral buzz on social media and this can drive the sales of Panco pizza as we live in a digitalized world.
My Goals for Panco Pizza
๐งต Seamless Design
Carefully designed to deliver a clear and unified voice.
๐ Determine the standard
Learn about multiple pizza apps on the market.
Understand usersโ frustrations.
๐ Customize Feature
Understand why users would like to customize their pizza.
Enable users to customize their own Pizza
Create a recipe page where users can upload pictures of the pizza they created and see our user's creation
Make this feature as easy as possible for users to understand and use.
Create an exciting experience while using this feature.
Realize our competitor's weaknesses and improve on them.
๐จEmphasise new content
When a new feature is being added, I have to make sure users can access it easily.
02. DISCOVERY
Understanding the users
As the only designer, a crucial part of my role was to research and create a user experience that would create a statement in the digital community as this product has no digital presence.
Methods
I chose research methods that aligned with the goals I was trying to achieve.
Literature review, Competitive Analysis and survey methods were selected to explore the problem space
My Approach
Research
My intention for the research phase was to uncover the needs and frustrations of the target user to better understand how to appeal to them.
Secondary Research: Market research
I looked into competitor apps to learn about the standard of a pizza app and learn the strengths and weaknesses of our competitors.
Secondary Research: Competitive analysis
Competitive analysis was carried out to understand the strengths, weaknesses, similarities, and differences between competitor pizza apps.
My competitive analysis produced the following insights:
I found that:
None of the competitors have a fully fleshed-out customize option for users.
The interface is difficult to navigate.
An overwhelming amount of texts may lead to uncertainty and inconsistent results.
Survey: Objectives
I conducted a user survey to find out the common pain points among users, to know the features that are important to those who purchase pizza online, and why some people choose not to purchase at all.
Findings from my Survey
There is a problem in the digital space for pizza apps, this means we have the potential to rule the space by giving out a better user experience and interface.
None of the competitors have a fully fleshed-out customize option for users.
The competitors understand the need for fluidity between app and website, so we must not lack in this aspect.
User Persona
To better guide my design and emphasize the users my research results were used to create these two user personas.
Ideation
With my research findings and personas in mind, I came up with as many ideas as possible without considering feasibility at this stage.
Core Functionalities
I went through the ideas I came up with, I understood the pros and cons of each one while putting the business, developers, and time into consideration.
Eventually, I settled on the following core functionalities.
0.3 INFORMATION HIERARCHY
Flow Chart
I created a flow chart for the Panco Pizza Place Chain that outlined the app's navigation and information hierarchy. This flow aimed to make the user's journey as short and simple as possible.
0.4 DESIGN
Wireframe Design
Once I had defined my user flow, I moved into wireframing Panco pizza App. I explored what the layout would look like. These are some of the explorations I did with my wireframing.
User Feedback
All users liked the create pizza feature and the function to directly upload the pizza they created to the recipe page. This was reassuring for me, since these two functions are my primary focus, and what distinguishes Panco pizza from existing apps.
Refined Design Goals and Features
I refined my design goals to match the core functionalities and the user feedback I got to help develop the best version of the app.
๐ Target different taste buds
Different ingredients are available for different users to cover for those who suffer from allergies.
Gives users a choice between being conservative and adventurous with the recipe page.
๐ค Exclusive deals for users
On the homepage, attract users with exclusive deals to make them feel needed by us.
๐ฃ Communicating with users
Provide users with enough information to confidently place orders on the app without being overwhelmed.
Defining a clear and unified tone of voice.
๐ฅฐ Helping users feel Confident
Provide pictures of thepizza and ingredients.
Constructing a new visual identity and Branding
I did critical thinking to create the clear tone of voice I wanted to convey for the brand. I made two abstract blobs and assigned colors that symbolize the company's branding.
