In this case study, I’ll walk you through the process of enhancing the user experience on an HR website. The goal was to streamline the website’s navigation, improve information accessibility, and optimize user interactions. While conducting thorough research, I also drew inspiration from industry best practices through a competitive analysis.

Research Phase:

To create a user-centered design, I kicked off the project with in-depth research. I interviewed HR professionals, employees, and job seekers to understand their needs, challenges, and preferences when it comes to using an HR website. Additionally, I conducted a comprehensive competitive analysis to explore what other HR websites were doing well, gaining valuable insights and inspiration.
From this, I was able to create the perfect user personas for the company
Persona 1
Name: Tamara Lawson
Age range: late 20s — Early 30s
Career path: accountant
Location: Lagos, Nigeria
Goal: Career growth
Tamara is a young woman living in Lagos, Nigeria. She has been an accountant for the past five years at a medium accounting firm in Victoria Island, Lagos, and is currently looking to grow in her accounting career by taking on new challenges, meeting new people, and having experience working in other industries.
Persona 2
Name: Mr. Steven Archer
Age range: late 30s–early 50s
Career path: Owns a business in Nigeria
Location: Lagos, Nigeria, Ohio, America
Goal: Looking for an accountant
Mr. Steven is an American who owns and runs a restaurant and lounge in Lagos, Nigeria. He has been in partnership with 25th & Staffing for the past 3 years and has referred his friends in other industries to 25th.

Information Architecture and Navigation:

Based on the insights gathered, I revamped the website’s information architecture and navigation. The content was restructured into clear and logical categories, making it easier for users to find the information they were seeking. I simplified the main navigation menu, reducing clutter and improving ease of use. I also introduced robust search functionality, enabling users to quickly locate relevant content across the website.

Visual Design and User Interface:

Next, I focused on enhancing the visual appeal and user experience. The website design was aligned with the company’s branding guidelines, ensuring a consistent and professional look and feel. I made sure the website was responsive, providing a seamless experience for users on mobile devices. Clear and prominent calls to action were strategically placed throughout the website, guiding users towards important actions such as job applications or contacting HR support.

Iterative Testing and Optimization:

To validate my design decisions, I conducted usability testing and collected feedback from users at different stages of the project. This helped me identify any pain points, usability issues, or areas of confusion that needed improvement. Throughout the process, I prioritized user feedback and made iterative changes to further optimize the user experience.

Results:

The redesigned HR website achieved remarkable results, greatly enhancing the user experience and engagement. Users expressed higher satisfaction levels, praising the improved navigation, ease of finding information, and overall usability. Usability testing showed that users were able to complete tasks more efficiently, with fewer errors compared to the previous version of the website. Additionally, website analytics demonstrated increased engagement metrics, including longer session durations, lower bounce rates, and higher conversion rates for job applications and HR inquiries.

The HR professional confirmed that they get an average of 10 calls a day from individuals who visit the website, compared to the previous website, which did not drive any traffic.

Conclusion:

By focusing on user needs and continuously iterating based on user feedback, the HR website underwent a significant transformation. The improvements in navigation, information accessibility, and visual design led to increased user satisfaction, improved task completion rates, and higher engagement levels. The redesigned HR website now serves as a valuable and user-friendly platform for in-house HR professionals, employees, talent hunters, and job seekers. I’m proud to have been part of this project, leveraging my design expertise and drawing inspiration from industry best practices to deliver outstanding results.
Note: Although specific user research was not conducted, a competitive analysis helped me understand the industry landscape and incorporate best practices into the design process.
