Introduction:

In today's fast-paced world, efficient logistics and timely deliveries are crucial for businesses and individuals alike. This UX case study focuses on the design of a user-friendly logistics app that allows users to easily hail a courier service and gain access to logistics vehicles/motorcycles in their vicinity. By conducting primary research, analyzing user personas, and creating wireframes, this case study aims to highlight the importance of simplifying the logistics process and meeting the needs of both businesses and individuals.

Prototype:

Problem Statement:

The existing logistics process lacks simplicity and accessibility, causing delays and inefficiencies in deliveries. Users struggle to find reliable courier services and have limited options for accessing logistics vehicles/motorcycles conveniently. There is a clear need for a user-friendly logistics app that streamlines the process and provides easy access to logistics services.

Industry insight:

The logistics and supply chain industry in Nigeria is still in its early stages but is experiencing remarkable growth. In 2018, the industry was valued at 250 billion Nigerian naira ($696 million), witnessing a 50 billion naira ($140 million) increase from the previous year (source: International Trade Administration website). Several key players have emerged in this industry, including DHL, MSC, GMT Logistics, BHN Logistics, TSL Logistics, UPS, Ballots Transport and Logistics, Redstar Logistics, GIG Logistics, Nipost, and MDS Logistics.

User Need:

Users require a reliable logistics app that allows them to easily hail a courier service and access logistics vehicles/motorcycles in their area. They seek a simple and efficient process for scheduling pickups, tracking deliveries, and obtaining real-time updates. The app should provide a wide range of reliable service options while ensuring affordability and timely deliveries.

Primary Research and Insights:

Through a survey conducted among business owners who regularly use logistics services, valuable insights were gathered. Respondents expressed their challenges with finding reliable courier services, the need for a streamlined logistics process, and the desire for easy access to logistics vehicles/motorcycles. The research highlighted the importance of affordability, reliability, and timeliness in the logistics sector.
Here are the questions that were asked in the survey:
How long have you been in business?
what’s the nature of your business?
How often do you need the services of a logistics company?
What’s the name of the best logistics company in your city?
Have you ever been disappointed by logistics companies? If yes, what are the most common types of disappointments?
What do you think about the logistics industry in your city?
What challenges do you face with logistics as a business owner?
If you face any challenges, in what way do they affect your business?
On what basis do you use a particular logistics company?
Would you download an app that makes it easier for you to find logistics companies (like Uber for logistics)?

Target Audience

Business owners (Big & Small)
Anyone in need of logistics services
Vehicle drivers/ motorcycle riders in need of an extra source of income

User Personas:

Based on the primary research, two user personas were developed to represent the target audience:

Empathy Map:

To better understand users' perspectives and emotions, an empathy map was created. It revealed the desire for hassle-free logistics, the frustration of delays, the need for transparency in the delivery process, and the joy of timely and efficient services.

User Flow and Wireframes:

Using the insights gathered, a user flow and wireframes were created to illustrate the step-by-step process and interface design. The user flow ensures a seamless journey from requesting a courier service to tracking the delivery. The wireframes showcase a clean and intuitive interface that focuses on ease of use and quick access to essential features.

Features and Revenue Model:

The app features include:
- User registration and profile creation
- Real-time tracking of deliveries
- Selection of logistics vehicle/motorcycle based on size and urgency
- Secure payment options
- Delivery history and order tracking
- Rating and feedback system for service providers
The revenue model includes in-app adverts, charging service providers a commission fee for each successful delivery, and offering premium features or subscriptions for businesses or frequent users.

Users' Interface:

Colour

I studied how colours could impact users’ experience when using the product. With this, I chose simple colours, that would give the users a sense of efficiency and positivity while interfacing with QuickGo. Orange was used as the primary colour, with black and greys used in different instances.

Typeface

To give our users an enjoyable and focused experience while exploring the app, I used the typeface 'Montserrat.' This is because the sans serif typeface is clean, readable and quite legible.

SWOT Analysis:

A SWOT analysis was conducted to evaluate the strengths, weaknesses, opportunities, and threats associated with the logistics app. This analysis provided insights into the competitive landscape, potential growth opportunities, and areas that require attention for successful implementation.

Conclusion:

This UX case study emphasizes the significance of a user-friendly logistics app that simplifies the process of hailing a courier service and accessing logistics vehicles/motorcycles. By understanding user needs, conducting primary research, and utilizing effective design methodologies, the aim is to create an intuitive and efficient app that meets the demands of businesses and individuals alike. With a focus on reliability, affordability, and user satisfaction, the logistics app has the potential to revolutionize the delivery experience and streamline logistics operations.
