Objective: The project aimed to create an engaging and visually compelling animated infographic for the Ministry of Health (MOH) to educate the public about the dangers of smoking, including its impact on health and the alarming statistics of smoking-related diseases.

Context: Commissioned by the Ministry of Health, the animation was part of a national public health campaign. As a non-smoker myself, I felt a personal connection to the project’s mission to promote healthier lifestyles and reduce smoking prevalence. The infographic needed to communicate complex data in a clear, accessible, and visually appealing way to reach a wide audience.

Challenges: One of the main challenges was transforming detailed statistical data into a dynamic, easy-to-understand animation that would resonate emotionally while remaining factually accurate. Balancing the informational aspect with a design that could hold the viewer’s attention was critical.

Solution: I used Adobe After Effects to design a series of animations that highlighted key statistics, paired with impactful visual metaphors (e.g., rising smoke turning into a graph of disease rates). Smooth transitions and clear typography ensured that the message was easy to follow. Strategic use of colors and icons helped differentiate data categories, while animations emphasized critical points to leave a lasting impression.

Lessons Learned: This project deepened my understanding of how design can influence public health messaging. I also strengthened my skills in simplifying complex information for broader audiences, using animation as an effective storytelling tool.

What I’d Do Differently: In future similar projects, I would explore incorporating interactive elements or more diverse visual storytelling techniques to further enhance audience engagement.
