Whiteboard ✍️ Animation

Objective: The goal of this project was to create an engaging animated explainer video that demonstrates the functionality of a solar-powered ice generator designed for fishermen in a remote village. This generator, powered by renewable energy, provides a sustainable solution for preserving their catch without relying on electricity, thereby supporting the local fishing economy and protecting the environment.

Context: The client provided a short video, captured on a mobile phone, showcasing the generator in action. Based on this footage, I developed a full-fledged animated explainer using custom illustrations that ensure the client’s peace of mind regarding copyright compliance.

Challenges: The main challenge was transforming raw video footage into a polished and educational animation. The project required creating original illustrations, designing a storyboard, writing the script, and adding sound design—all while capturing the generator’s technical details and its importance for the community.

Solution: I began by crafting a script and storyboard to outline the animation’s flow and key messages. Using Adobe After Effects, I animated my hand-drawn illustrations, ensuring every visual element clearly explained the generator's working process and its benefits. To enhance the viewing experience, I personally designed the sound effects, adding realistic audio elements like ice formation and solar panel hum. The end result was a dynamic, visually engaging, and emotionally resonant animation that effectively conveyed the generator’s impact on the fishermen's livelihood and the environment.

Lessons Learned: This project reinforced the importance of tailoring technical animations to the audience's needs, ensuring clarity while highlighting emotional and ecological impacts. I also deepened my understanding of integrating custom artwork and sound design to elevate a story’s impact.

What I’d Do Differently: For future projects, I’d explore incorporating interactive elements, such as clickable hotspots, to further engage the audience with detailed information about the product.

Include visual samples from the animation, such as still frames of the ice generator process, illustrations of fishermen at work, and a side-by-side comparison of the raw footage and final animation.
