When I moved to Georgia in October 2022, I had no idea how or where to meet like-minded people. My only friend and guide was my neighbor.
However, after some time, I met my co-founder, and we came up with the idea of creating an app where expats could connect with each other, share their relocation experiences, and explore places and events around them.
In May 2023, our product launched in the Georgian market. The first year was a test phase. It was crucial for us to understand what our target audience truly needed and the direction we should take to reach an international audience. Now that we have this understanding, we’re moving forward with rebranding, registering the company, and expanding into new markets!
Achievements:
1. Developed and implemented marketing and communication strategies for the product—successfully driving traffic to the app, with over 50% of users coming from Instagram.
2. Conducted research:
- Qualitative: Used data to develop the app’s functionality and go-to-market strategy.
- Quantitative: Analyzed the demographic characteristics of app users and Instagram followers. This enabled better audience segmentation and more effective messaging.
3. Created several ad creatives in English for Instagram targeting, achieving an average cost per click of 10 cents and a registration cost of 35 cents. 80% of the attracted traffic became app users.
4. Launched the Expats View project on Instagram, where expats share their relocation experiences. So far, five expats from Spain, Montenegro, Thailand, France, and South Korea have participated.
5. Attended over 30 networking events and business breakfasts in Tbilisi, where I introduced our product and increased brand awareness in the Georgian market. As a result, 20% of our traffic comes from this channel.
6. Currently, we have over 500 app downloads, with users from various countries speaking more than 15 languages. Our total advertising spend has been under $1,000.
7. The app has reached the top charts in the AppStore’s Social Networking category, with the highest rank so far being 71st—aiming for the top 10!
