CMS LTD | Taxi & Mobility Mobile Apps

Cab Management System develops software for private-hire and minicab operators in the UK.
Our work across CMS covered both sides of that system: the tools drivers use to receive and complete jobs, and customer apps used by individual taxi operators for bookings, quotations, scheduled journeys, payments and trip tracking.
Rather than presenting each app as an unrelated project, this case study brings the work together and shows how the same underlying transport problems were handled across different users and taxi businesses.

Two sides of the same journey

A passenger and a driver can be part of the same booking, but they need very different products.
The passenger needs to enter a route, get a quotation, select when they want to travel, choose a vehicle, confirm the booking and understand what happens next.
The driver needs the information required to actually complete that journey: the assigned job, customer details, pickup location, navigation, trip status, fare information and payment.
That difference shaped the work across the CMS apps.

CMS Driver App

From assigned job to completed fare

The CMS Driver App is built for drivers working with licensed minicab operators that use Cab Management System.
The app handles the operational side of the journey. Drivers can receive assigned jobs, accept or decline them, access pickup details and use navigation while working. The published CMS app also supports live traffic navigation and location sharing with the minicab office.
Once a job is accepted, the experience changes from deciding whether to take the work to completing it.
Pickup information becomes the focus. The customer's name, time, location and trip status need to be readable quickly because this interface is being used while the driver is working, not while casually browsing an app.

Closing the journey

At the end of the job, the app brings together distance, waiting time, surcharges, final fare and payment information.
The iOS version history also shows that card payment and fare-summary functionality have been part of the CMS Driver product.

Passenger booking apps

The customer-facing side solves a different problem.
A taxi app has to collect enough information to price and arrange the journey without making booking feel like filling out a long form.
Across the operator apps, that usually means bringing together location search, maps, dates and times, quotations, vehicle options, booking confirmation and payment.
The basic requirements are shared, but each operator still needs its own brand and customer experience.

Hunts Taxis

Local booking without unnecessary steps

Hunts Taxis serves Bracknell and surrounding areas, including local journeys and airport transfers. Its published app allows customers to book journeys, track the driver and pay online.
The core booking experience keeps the map central.
Passengers enter where they are travelling from and where they are going, choose when they want the journey, and continue to quotation and booking.

A2Z Taxis Amersham

Booking, fare and confirmation in one flow

A2Z Taxis Amersham uses the same CMS ecosystem for a different operator and local market.
The published app supports quick taxi booking, live driver tracking, instant fare estimates, card payment and scheduled journeys. Google Play
The interface uses A2Z's red identity throughout the booking experience while keeping the actual journey information easy to recognize.
After the passenger has selected the trip, the confirmation screen brings the important information together: journey reference, vehicle type, fare, pickup, destination, date and time.

Wallington Station Cars

Making location selection easier on mobile

For Wallington Station Cars, the strongest part of the work is the relationship between search and the map.
Passengers need to find the correct pickup and destination without uncertainty, especially when similar street names appear in several locations.
Once locations are selected, the passenger can review the route, date and time and continue toward the quotation.

Wentworth Cars

Supporting individual and business customers

Wentworth is useful in this case study because it shows another side of taxi booking.
The passenger flow covers the usual journey tasks, but the product also includes access for business users through a corporate account experience.
The Android app supports quotations, route viewing, advance bookings, cash or card payment, booking management, driver tracking and saved addresses.
A company arranging transport for staff, visitors or clients has different account requirements from an individual passenger, so the product includes a dedicated corporate registration experience rather than treating every user the same way.

UWant Private Hire

Passenger booking for local and airport journeys

UWant Private Hire is another customer-facing app in the CMS portfolio, built for passengers booking local journeys and airport transfers.
The app gives customers a clear path from entering trip details through to booking, with support for live driver tracking and online payment. The public listing also highlights fixed-price local routes and airport transfer services

Live UWant Private Hire

A shared system, adapted for each operator

The passenger apps share many of the same core needs: location search, maps, quotations, scheduled bookings, vehicle selection, confirmations, payments, and journey tracking.
But each operator still needs its own experience.
Hunts Taxis uses a bold yellow identity and a direct booking flow.
UWant Private Hire focuses on local journeys and airport transfers.
A2Z Taxis Amersham carries its red branding through route, fare, and confirmation screens.
Wallington Station Cars puts more emphasis on search, maps, and location selection.
Wentworth Cars adds corporate account access alongside regular passenger booking.
CMS Driver App is completely different because it is built for drivers managing jobs, pickups, fares, and payments.
The consistency comes from the way important booking information is organized and how users move through the journey.
The differences come from each operator’s branding, service needs, customer type, and the parts of the booking process that matter most to them.

The wider CMS mobile portfolio

Taken together, the work covers much more than a single taxi-booking screen.
It includes the driver receiving and completing work, customers searching for destinations, selecting dates and times, comparing fares and vehicle types, confirming journeys, tracking bookings, paying, and accessing corporate accounts.
Each individual case study can go deeper into those flows.
This master case study exists to show how those projects connect and the range of mobile transport problems covered across the CMS portfolio.
