Danum PH is an amalgamation of art, wit, and wine. "Danum" directly translates to "water" in Ilocano. The brand name is a wordplay associated with the famous parable of Jesus turning water to wine, and always garners a laugh when paired with Danum's tagline, "Stay hydrated!"
Our goal was to create a brand that exudes luxury without the hefty price tag. This posed a challenge since luxury products typically require costly packaging. Given Danum's limited budget, we had to work with bottles and materials that could be sourced with minimal order quantities and the lowest shipping price, resulting in simpler packaging than our competitors who charge five times our price point.
Our Honey Mead, brewed in-house using honey from the lush Quezon Province, is our first self-brewed product. We wanted the packaging to differ from our first three products—Bugnay, Red Tapuey, and White Tapuey—so we began with a 200ml bottle to test the market. The challenge was: how do we entice people to try it? The answer was to design packaging that rivals top-shelf liquors to attract first-time customers. We continued using Dionysus, the Greek god renowned for wine and revelry, to feature prominently on the label and added a frame of flowers, still incorporating elements reminiscent of Grecian art.
Although not hand-drawn, the design remains bespoke and sophisticated. To highlight the illustrative details and used gold press (same as the Bugnay and Red Tapuey), giving the label an elegant touch. The design and size make it perfect for gifts. The eye-catching label drew potential buyers, leading to increased sales and fostering a loyal customer base who appreciated both the mead's quality and the beautiful bottle.
