Harry Potter: Triwizard Tournament

To mark 20 years of Harry Potter and the Goblet of Fire, Warner Bros. Studio Tour London wanted a digital experience that could capture the tournament's spectacle and extend it beyond the studio walls. I built it while working at Amazon Brand Innovation Lab — from early ideation through pitch, presenting the concept directly to Warner Bros., then leading the creative technology development from prototype to launch. The experience had two parts. The first was a rich multimedia website: animated content sections, scroll-based transitions, material animations, and interactive reveals — including an ink-style animation that uncovered hidden content on click, a tarot-inspired quiz that guided users through themed questions to reveal their ideal Triwizard feature, and an interactive table where visitors could explore key objects from the tournament with layered navigation and animation. I collaborated closely with a designer on the Figma layouts and 2D assets, and built the full interactive layer on top. The second part was an AR experience triggered by QR code. After scanning, users entered their name and launched a world-tracked scene where a 3D Goblet of Fire appeared in their physical space. A parchment animated their name in handwritten form, and they could drag it toward the goblet — triggering VFX and SFX as it was drawn into the flames. The 3D model was optimized in Blender for real-time performance. The experience was deployed into Amazon's brand store ecosystem and activated live at King's Cross Station, where visitors gathered around a 25-foot animatronic Hungarian Horntail dragon and entered their names into the Goblet for a chance to win rewards. The Triwizard Tournament feature ran at Warner Bros. Studio Tour London from May to September 2025, with the King's Cross activation as its public launch moment.

IMPACT

Part of a major campaign for one of the most recognisable entertainment franchises in the world, with coverage from Wizarding World (official), MuggleNet, The Fan Carpet, West End Theatre, and more. Warner Bros. were happy with the result — and the King's Cross activation brought it into the real world in front of a live public audience.

TECHNICAL DETAILS

Interactive website built with React, React Three Fiber, GSAP, Lottie, and CSS — covering animated text, scroll transitions, material animations, ink-reveal interactions, quiz mechanics, and interactive object navigation. AR experience built with AR.js, featuring world tracking, 3D Goblet of Fire asset, animated parchment with name personalisation, drag interaction, and VFX/SFX on completion. 3D asset optimized in Blender for real-time use. Deployed as a live Amazon brand store experience.

RESPONSIBILITIES

Creative Technology Lead: Led the full experience from ideation and pitch to Warner Bros. through to production and launch — concept, prototyping, and delivery. Interactive Web Development: Built the multimedia website including animated content sections, scroll-based transitions, ink-style reveal interactions, tarot-inspired quiz mechanics, and interactive object exploration. AR Experience Development: Built the QR-triggered AR flow — world-tracked Goblet of Fire placement, personalised name input, animated parchment, drag-and-drop ritual interaction, and VFX/SFX on completion. 3D Asset Optimization: Edited and optimized the Goblet of Fire 3D model in Blender for real-time performance within the AR scene. Deployment: Prepared and deployed the experience within Amazon's brand store ecosystem for distribution at scale. Cross-functional Collaboration: Worked with a designer across Figma layouts and 2D assets, and directly with the Warner Bros. stakeholder team throughout.
