Built at Aircards for the Royal Canadian Mint, in collaboration with Eat It Up Media and Media Experts. A 360° WebXR virtual museum built around the launch of the Alexander Graham Bell commemorative circulation coin. The museum has two rooms: the Sound Room and the Transportation Room, each dedicated to Bell's inventions. Inside, users explore 3D models with layered narratives, video integrations, and animated reveals, with 2D and 3D animations bringing the artefacts to life. Navigation ran on two modes: joystick-based movement for desktop (keyboard and mouse) and hotspot-driven exploration for mobile. Camera animations handled transitions between points of interest, with CSS animations layered on top of the 3D scenes for UI and reveal moments, and video transitions bridging between states. Performance was managed through a per-device LOD strategy, serving different asset quality levels for desktop and mobile. That mattered: over half of all 29,000 visits came from mobile devices, with a 35% interaction rate across the board.

IMPACT

29,000 visits, 35% interaction rate, 50%+ mobile, and a nomination for the 15th Annual Shorty Awards. An extensive media campaign drove 89% of the traffic, proving that strong content and the right distribution channel actually work together.

TECHNICAL DETAILS

360° WebXR experience built with Three.js, A-Frame, JavaScript, HTML, and CSS. Two immersive rooms with 3D models, 2D/3D animations, video integrations, and animated reveals. Dual navigation: joystick (keyboard + mouse) for desktop, hotspot-driven for mobile. Camera animations for room transitions, CSS animations layered alongside 3D scenes, video transitions between states. Per-device LOD strategy for desktop vs mobile performance. Sound effects throughout.

RESPONSIBILITIES

Lead Development: Full build across two 360° immersive environments, covering 3D model integration, 2D/3D animations, interactive reveals, video integrations, and all UI logic. Navigation Systems: Dual-mode navigation with joystick-based movement for desktop users and hotspot-driven exploration for mobile, with camera animations handling transitions between points of interest. Animation & Transitions: CSS animations layered alongside 3D scenes for UI and reveal moments; video transitions bridging between room states and interactive beats. LOD & Performance: Per-device level-of-detail strategy serving appropriate asset quality to desktop and mobile, keeping the experience consistent across the full device range. Sound Design Integration: Integrated spatial and contextual sound effects to reinforce the immersive environment.
