Empowering Insulin Management with the myDialoq® App

The myDialoq® app was developed with a clear mission: to transform how people with diabetes manage their insulin dosing, providing the freedom and flexibility that was once challenging to achieve. When this project began, managing diabetes on the go was difficult. Most individuals had to rely on rigid setups at home, including notes and manual logs, to track their insulin usage. Novo's challenge was to bridge this gap and create a digital solution to make managing insulin as easy and accessible as possible, even when travelling. The myDialoq® app represents a significant step towards this transformation.

The core functionality of the myDialoq® app revolves around accurate and user-friendly tracking of insulin doses. The app logs the type of insulin, dosage, and administration time. Users can view their dosing history over seven days, fourteen days, and a month—making it easier to monitor their regimen. A crucial feature was the seamless sharing of this data with healthcare professionals (HCPs). This functionality aimed to simplify consultations, allowing patients to share a clear, accurate summary of their insulin use without the cumbersome process of maintaining manual records.

The development process wasn't without its challenges. Ensuring the device correctly communicated with the app in real time was complex, particularly with requirements such as dismissing test injections without disrupting the logged data. Additionally, there was a demand for a printed guide, which had to be meticulously designed to ensure it was as clear and straightforward as the digital experience. Despite the technical intricacies, the focus remained on delivering an intuitive user interface (UI) and user experience (UX) that simplified insulin management. The result was a product that gave users a clear view of their doses, a summary of their insulin history, and the ability to securely share this information—key components essential in managing diabetes effectively.

The collaboration with Novo was a successful endeavour, showcasing the potential of blending medical expertise with innovative UI/UX design. By focusing on the core needs of insulin tracking, dosage summaries, and data sharing, the myDialoq® app empowered users to manage their diabetes with newfound ease and flexibility. This case study is a testament to the critical role of thoughtful design and seamless technology integration in transforming healthcare solutions, inspiring stakeholders in healthcare technology to explore similar partnerships.
