FireStock — rethinking daily life at the firehouse

Overview

FireStock is a SaaS mobile app built for firehouse crews who run their daily station life on paper sheets and whiteboards.
By bringing live inventory tracking, a transparent shared-fund ledger and recipes linked to stock into one place, FireStock gives firefighters a simple way to manage groceries, dues and meals across 48-hour shifts.
Our goal was to design a clear, intuitive and high-contrast mobile app experience that fits real station routines and asks for almost zero data entry.

The challenge

Station life depended on whiteboards and memory, and that created constant friction. Shared-fund contributions were tracked by hand, so unpaid dues piled up and created financial strain. Without a live view of stock, crews ended up with duplicate purchases on one side and empty shelves on the other. The challenge was to replace these manual habits with one tool that firefighters would actually use, even with no patience for logging data after a long shift.

Our approach

We started by mapping how a firehouse actually works: shift schedules, shared purchases, the Kitty Fund and meal routines. Next, we defined the core product principles: zero-effort input, money without awkwardness, and an interface built for pressure. Based on them, we structured the app around home, inventory, finances, meals and profile. For the visual direction, we explored two design concepts, both built on high-contrast layouts to reduce cognitive load for station managers, before selecting the final approach.

UX/UI design solution

Station-Synced Onboarding Users join their fire department and station in a few steps, so schedules align with local 48-hour shifts. Rank and Venmo handle are captured upfront, making every reimbursement automatic from the first login.
Live Kitty Fund & Debt List We replaced the whiteboard with a digital ledger. A dedicated debt list tracks unpaid dues, and managers can nudge personnel with one tap instead of chasing them in person.
Inventory With Low-Stock Alerts A live stock database with a quick, low-effort update flow. The Home dashboard shows the fund balance and low-stock alerts at a glance, so essentials never run out.
Recipes Linked to Stock The Meals hub checks recipe ingredients against live inventory and generates a one-tap grocery list, connecting cooking and purchasing in one flow.

Production-Ready Screens in Figma
Outcome The project delivered a complete mobile ecosystem that replaced whiteboards and paper sheets with a single app for inventory, shared funds and meal planning. Contributions, debts and reimbursements are now tied to each firefighter's profile and Venmo handle, and FireStock has a clear, high-contrast design foundation that reads instantly, even when crews are tired or in a hurry.
