Soul Sync – Gamified Emotional Literacy for Adults
Project Type: UX Design, Emotional Wellness App
Duration: 2024 – Ongoing
Role: Lead UX Designer & Information Architect
Overview
Soul Sync is a gamified mental wellness app designed to teach adults how to recognize, regulate, and refine their emotional intelligence. The platform tackles a growing need: most adults were never taught how to emotionally process, communicate, or recover—and it shows in their relationships, work, and wellbeing.
This project blends science-backed strategies, gamification, and inclusive storytelling to build a personalized learning experience that doesn’t feel like a lecture.
Problem
Many adults lack access to emotional intelligence (EI) education, and existing apps fall short due to:
Paywalls hiding core content
Repetitive material
Cluttered navigation
Weak accessibility support
Minimal cultural relevance
The emotional education space is saturated with one-size-fits-all solutions—Soul Sync aims to break that pattern.
Goal
Create an engaging, culturally aware, and fully accessible app that supports emotional growth through personalized learning paths, interactive storytelling, and daily practices that feel meaningful—not cheesy.
Key Features
Gamified Structure: Points, badges, challenges, and leveling systems keep users motivated
Interactive Scenarios: Real-world role-play simulations build practical EI skills
Personalized Learning: Custom paths tailored by user goals, backgrounds, and communication styles
Multimedia Learning: Video, audio, infographics, and quizzes to reach all learning types
Community Building: Peer support groups, webinars, and shared learning spaces
Accessibility First: Text resizing, color contrast options, voice navigation, screen reader support, and more
Cultural Inclusion: Localized content, cultural advisors, and user-contributed stories for diverse representation
My Role
I developed the full Information Architecture and UX Design strategy for this app, including:
Mapping app structure and user flows
Creating personas based on targeted research
Defining pain points in competing platforms
Prioritizing accessibility and cultural inclusivity
Ideating gamification elements with long-term retention in mind
Designing custom learning modules, daily prompts, and community spaces
Personas Created
Maria: Empathetic teacher struggling with burnout
James: Software engineer with weak communication skills
Linda: Corporate manager overwhelmed by emotional labor
Ahmed: Freelance designer navigating imposter syndrome
Each user journey influenced the app’s modular design and tone.
Outcomes
Still in progress, but early feedback on concept testing has been promising. The IA supports:
Reduced overwhelm through cleaner navigation
More meaningful engagement thanks to daily challenges
Higher personalization via modular, goal-based pathways
Increased user trust through inclusive and relatable content
Tools Used
Figma, Miro, Adobe Illustrator, accessibility audit tools, Airtable for persona tracking
What I Learned
Designing for emotional intelligence means embracing nuance. I learned that people don’t want to be “fixed”—they want tools that meet them where they are, speak their language, and grow with them. Building Soul Sync challenged me to blend logic with empathy, and that balance has reshaped how I approach every UX project since.
