Ellipsis care: Voice-First Healthcare for the Elderly

Subtitle: Designing an accessible, AI-driven health monitoring MVP focused on patient adherence and radical simplicity.
Role: Lead Product Designer (UI/UX, VUI)
Platform: Mobile App (Optimized for Flutter)
Deliverables: Voice User Interface (VUI) Design, High-Contrast UI, Health Dashboard Architecture, Interactive Prototyping

The Context: The Adherence Problem

Ellipsis Care is a health-tech initiative designed to bridge the gap between HMOs, caregivers, and elderly patients. The core business objective of the MVP was to improve patient adherence to daily health tracking (like taking medication and logging vitals), which directly correlates to massive HMO cost savings and better patient outcomes.
However, the primary demographic—elderly patients—often experiences significant friction with standard mobile applications due to visual impairments, decreased motor function, and cognitive overload.

The Challenge: Designing for Zero Friction

To solve the adherence problem, the app couldn't just be a digital form. It needed to feel like a helpful companion. The challenge was integrating advanced AI voice recognition and health tracking into an interface that an 80-year-old could navigate without frustration or assistance.

The Solution: Voice-Led Accessibility

I discarded traditional dense app layouts and focused on two core accessibility principles: visual clarity and voice-first interaction.
1. The High-Contrast VUI (Voice User Interface): Instead of forcing users to navigate complex menus, the primary interaction model is voice. The homepage is anchored by a clear, undeniable microphone icon. When a user speaks, this icon seamlessly transforms into an active AI animation, providing critical visual feedback that the system is listening and processing, bridging the gap between physical speech and digital action.
2. Anti-Overwhelmed Data Architecture: Tracking blood pressure, glucose, and daily medications can easily turn into a confusing wall of charts. To prevent cognitive overload, I designed the Health History Dashboard using strict progressive disclosure. The UI utilizes a stark, high-contrast black-and-white color palette and displays only one data metric at a time. Users can easily digest their current status and use oversized, accessible tap targets to switch to the next metric at their own pace.

The Outcome

The Ellipsis Care MVP design successfully translates complex AI capabilities into an empathetic, highly accessible mobile experience. By prioritizing high-contrast visuals, single-point data views, and intuitive voice feedback, the final design equips the development team with a Flutter-ready UI that actively removes the barriers to elderly health tracking.
