Bring Hometown Vibes To You

About the organization

Vietnamese Youth and Students Association (VYSA)
This is an organization based in Japan founded with a view to supporting Vietnamese students working and studying in Japan.

About the project

Lunar New Year celebration has been the most well-known tradition in Asian countries particularly Vietnam, China. As international students in Japan, we hardly experienced such Lunar New Year vibes since Japan started to celebrate Solar new year hundred years ago. To fulfill the goal: "Living abroad is like living at home," The New Year Event has been born as the way to connect Vietnamese people community as well as Bring Hometown Vibes to the community.
In this project, with the role of Event planning, I helped
1. Me and my teammates set up the theme for the year 2020, then came up with live activities based on the theme.
Theme 2020: Minh Tet Nhe - Hey, Let's Tet (like an invitation to a party of a buddy telling to her best friend)

Theme 2021: Tet Mode: On (The first-ever online event from us) - full version in the link below:
2. I prepare for the Tarot booth and coordinated the other booths on D-Day: contacting the Tarot reader, telling timeline and information about the booth like how it works, what can/cannnot do at the event, negotiating/ offering the benefits for them.

3. I prepared a Powerpoint Slideshow for MC's background.
4. I helped the Food and Beverage Team cook and prepare the food for D-Day.

Case Study

In addition to the initial goal, we decided to expand the event scale by inviting students from other countries especially those who are interested in Vietnamese culture. It meant that we took advantage of the diversity of our school where has students from over 60 countries in the world and let our event be a part of this diversity. In this international engagement, not only Vietnamese culture is widely popularized but our organization is also more well-known.

Accomplishments

Towards the event
Expected participants number at event 2020: 40 -> Actual number: 55
Feedbacks were amazing with positive comments and many recommendations for the next projects.
The guests' purpose was "to get the Vietnamese traditional New Year (Tet holiday) vibes in Japan", and we did it not only with the Vietnamese food on Tet days but also with traditional games that could bring them back to their childhood in far-away hometowns.
Towards personal growth
Intensive collaboration with other members did increase my teamwork experiences.
I learned to help other departments.
Flexibility skill was enhanced since some games met some troubles at the event and I had to deal with it.
The happiness after successfully bringing benefits to my small Vietnamese community (Proud of me and my team).
Detailed- oriented personality was improved as I had to check all things and evaluate plans, rehearsals before D-day.
Broaden my network with lots of interesting people (new friends, new seniors, alumni).
Thank you for passing by and see you in the next project!
