Tool: Articulate Storyline 360
Type: Scenario-based Assessment
Audience: Customer service reps, call center employees, retail staff
The Problem  Traditional customer service training relies on role-playing or lectures - creating anxiety without consistent practice. This module creates a safe, repeatable simulation where learners make real communication choices, see immediate consequences, and receive coaching-style feedback on why responses succeed or fail.
Learning Objectives  • By the end of this module, learners will be able to:
• Demonstrate professional communication in difficult customer scenarios
• Distinguish between dismissive, acceptable, and excellent responses
• Apply empathy and solution-focused thinking under pressure
• Self-assess communication skills through performance-based scoring
My Design Decisions  • Why scenario-based assessment?
Lectures teach theory without application. Scenarios create authentic emotional stakes - angry, confused, and unreasonable customers - mirroring real workplace pressure.
• Why three-tier scoring instead of right/wrong?
Not all poor responses are equally bad. Showing empathy without offering a solution is better than being dismissive - so responses earn +10 (Professional), +5 (Acceptable), or +0 (Poor), reflecting how real performance reviews actually work.
• Why four performance ratings?
A binary pass/fail doesn't reflect workplace reality. Four tiers - Outstanding, Good, Satisfactory, Needs Improvement - mirror actual employee evaluations and give learners meaningful, nuanced feedback.
• Personalization:
Learners enter their name at the start. It appears throughout scenarios and in the final evaluation, making the experience feel like a real workplace assessment rather than a generic quiz.
Technical Highlights
• 2 variables (ProfessionalismScore + EmployeeName)
•  9 feedback layers across 3 scenarios
• 4 conditional performance rating outcomes
• Partial credit scoring logic
• Dynamic text references throughout
What I Learned  This project taught me that soft skills training can be just as measurable as technical training when you design feedback that explains the why behind professional communication, not just whether an answer is right or wrong.

Customer Service Challenge is a scenario-based e-learning module designed to help learners practice professional communication in real-world customer service situations. Learners navigate three challenging customer interactions by selecting the most appropriate responses from multiple options. Each decision influences their professionalism score, leading to one of four performance outcomes based on their choices. The module uses branching logic and feedback layers to simulate workplace conversations and support decision-making. FEATURES: 3 customer scenarios Multiple response options Feedback layers Score tracking 4 performance endings SCENARIOS COVERED: The Angry Customer The Confused Customer The Unreasonable Request PERFORMANCE RATINGS: Outstanding – 30/30 Good – 21–29 Satisfactory – 11–20 Needs Improvement – 0–10 SKILLS DEMONSTRATED: Scenario design Score tracking Conditional results Soft skills training Branching logic
