Guided Style Sheet Collection for Authors & Editors
Project Overview
I created five guided style sheet templates through Writing with Amanda Lee to help authors and editors organize manuscript details, track continuity, and document editorial choices.
The collection includes fantasy, romance, horror, science fiction, and a non-specific option. Each provides a structured starting point for building a reference that users can develop alongside their manuscript.
The Challenge
As a manuscript grows, details become harder to track. Character descriptions can shift between chapters, invented terminology can develop inconsistent spellings, and timelines can become difficult to follow.
Different genres introduce additional considerations. Fantasy writers may need to establish magical limitations, romance writers may track relationship developments, and horror writers may document the boundaries of a supernatural threat. My goal was to create practical resources that reflect those differences.
My Role & Approach
I developed the templates in Microsoft Word, selected their organizational categories, and wrote prompts to guide users through recording relevant information.
Rather than relying solely on broad headings, I included specific fields that help writers decide what to document. These range from pronunciation and first appearances to dialogue conventions, chronological events, and formatting preferences.
The collection also received coordinated promotional covers using Writing with Amanda Lee’s navy, ivory, and gold palette. Each cover incorporates category-specific details while maintaining a consistent visual identity.
The Collection
Guided Fantasy Style Sheet — $44.99
A detailed reference for characters, geography, languages, cultural terms, weapons, artifacts, magical items, flora and fauna, and magic systems.
Prompts address pronunciation, naming conventions, magical limitations, first mentions, plot continuity, and editorial style choices.
A template for documenting character backgrounds, physical descriptions, internal traits, dialogue, relationships, and settings.
Chronological plot fields include significance, point of view, and heat level. Additional sections provide space for consent and dialogue guidelines, punctuation, and formatting decisions.
A reference for character fears, vulnerabilities, motivations, antagonist abilities and limitations, and supernatural rules.
The template includes fields for deaths, physical and psychological states, atmosphere, sensory details, pacing notes, and the treatment of unusual dialogue or effects.
Available through my Contra profile.
Guided Science Fiction Style Sheet — $44.99
A template for tracking invented jargon, technologies, species, weapons, concepts, settings, and time measurements.
It also addresses computer or AI dialogue, telepathic communication, technical and numerical styles, character relationships, and timeline continuity.
The project produced five editable Word templates and coordinated promotional cover images. The templates are resources for users to complete with their own manuscript information; personalized editing and manuscript assessment are separate services.
Authors can use a completed style sheet during drafting and revision, then share it with an editor as a reference for established details and preferences.
This collection demonstrates my ability to translate editorial and storytelling considerations into organized, reusable writing resources. It reflects my approach to author support: providing clear guidance while leaving creative decisions in the writer’s hands.
