Dan was introduced to me by his manager. We met on zoom and I played him some instrumental ideas that I'd previously worked up based on the conversation I'd had with his manger beforehand. Dan instantly liked one of them and he quickly improvised a melody over the top and recorded into his phone. (Dan likes to respond immediately to ideas and is very much into capturing inspiration in the moment) We then used this melody to co-write some lyrics and form the story behind the song.

The main concept and some of the lyrics were written in that first session over half a day and then Dan worked on the rest of the lyrics over the next week. He recorded a scratch (rough) vocal at his place and I began integrating it into the tack at mine. We talked several times to make changes to the melody and tweak some lyrics, he then recorded all the backing vocals and sent them over via Wetransfer.

Everything was done remotely. I provided several mixes over the next few days and Dan would make notes and I'd make the tweaks and changes to the mix

His manager and publisher loved the mix we settled on and it was released several months later
