Billy is a self releasing independent artist, we met several years ago via an independent label and after mixing one of his songs we began working together. Billy combines raping with singing and he'll often get some ideas down with a friend who plays guitar and bring those into the studio.
With 'Flowers' he bought a rough demo in and we discussed the direction he wanted the song to go in and I tried different ideas around beats, drum and guitar sounds. Once we had the track sounding good he put several vocals takes down and I would select the best bits from each take. He would take a rough mix home and listen over a few days and come back to me with minor changes to either his vocal or maybe taking some elements out or even making suggestions to the arrangement.
The whole process probably took about 3 or 4 sessions with him having several versions of the track to listen to before we both settled on a final mix.
