Overview
At ctrl QS Academy, we upskill 150 employees on various topics related to content management, CMS platforms, Martech, and AI. Our content needs frequent updates, and our audience has limited time for learning.
I was tasked with finding a new learning format using only MS Apps to address user complaints about the long clicks to complete training, SCORM errors, and heavy text. Inspired by the scrolling experience concept, I designed what we now call "Sway for eLearning."
Goals
Our goals were to find a creation tool that allowed us to:
Upskill with microlearning
Utilize the best features of MS Apps
Create a less corporate, more human learning experience
Ensure easy and fast content updates
Provide basic data analysis
Generate shareable links
Offer a level of customization to express Academy identity
Process
Review past projects: Revisited previous projects built on RISE to analyze the crucial elements for a scrolling learning experience.
Feature analysis: Noted down all available features on Sway.
Prototype development: Shared initial ideas with the team by creating a prototype to visualize Sway's possibilities.
Script creation: Crafted the content into blocks, fitting the copy into Sway's features.
First sway development: Developed the first Sway, which was polished into the sample linked here.
Results
"Sway for eLearning", as we call, speed up content updates and provided a fresh, easy-to-read format for our audience. While customization options are limited, it allows for personalized banners, icons, and images. It served as an alternative when our LMS was discontinued, enabling embedding of recordings, MS Forms, LinkedIn videos, and generating shareable links to collect data. The engaging scrolling format increased team engagement, achieving a 90% completion rate and a 95% satisfaction survey score.
