Professional Experience: Innovating Home Workouts with Mvmnt

Callum Fackrell

Introduction

As a Product Designer at Mvmnt, I helped transform the home workout experience through cutting-edge AI and machine learning technology. Collaborating remotely with a cross-functional team, we partnered with Sky TV to create an innovative workout app that utilised advanced camera technology to enhance safety, engagement, and user motivation. My contributions spanned collaborative design, multi-platform expertise, user experience optimisation, and product development.

Collaborative Design

I worked closely with designers, developers, and stakeholders to create a user-centric workout app. By leveraging Sky TV’s innovative camera technology, we gamified exercise routines while minimising risks during workouts. This collaborative approach ensured the app was both engaging and secure for users.

Innovation in Technology

We integrated advanced camera technology to track workouts and monitor user form, ensuring safety and accuracy. By gamifying routines, we transformed traditional home workouts into dynamic and motivating experiences that encouraged participation.

Multi-Platform Expertise

I designed for multiple platforms, including mobile, TV, and smartwatches, ensuring a seamless user experience across devices. This multi-platform approach allowed users to transition effortlessly between devices without compromising their workout flow.

User Experience Focus

I guided the videography of workout routines to ensure clarity and motivation in every session. These efforts enhanced the overall user experience by making workouts easy to follow and engaging for users at all fitness levels.

Product Development

From concept to launch, I focused on functionality, aesthetics, and user engagement. By iteratively refining features based on user feedback, we delivered a polished product that met high standards for quality and usability.

Addressing User Feedback

To address challenges like exercises requiring focus on the TV (e.g., planks), we developed mobile and smartwatch apps that shared real-time data with the TV app. This innovation improved convenience and accessibility for users.

Smartwatch Integration and Heart Rate Zone Feature

I led the integration of smartwatch functionality, enabling users to track reps and timers from their wrist. We also introduced a heart rate zone feature on the TV app to optimise rest periods and track calories burned, enhancing fitness tracking capabilities.

User Testing and Feedback

Rigorous testing at Sky TV’s labs involved new users for unbiased insights and returning users for iterative improvements. This feedback loop guided the successful launches of the mobile and smartwatch apps, earning overwhelmingly positive responses from users.
