3 Geography eBooks in Canva

Inquisitive is an award-winning education platform that simplifies access to quality primary lessons for teachers and students. Their content is used in classrooms across Australia and internationally, and they needed a set of 3 geography eBooks built in Canva that would be visually engaging for young learners while staying true to the educational content.

Create 3 geography eBooks targeting children aged 4–11, each exploring different regions and landmarks across Australia. The books needed to work as classroom resources, meaning they had to be educational, visually stimulating, and easy for the Inquisitive team to edit and update in Canva going forward.

The core tension in this project was balancing fun with substance. When you're designing for kids this young, it's tempting to go all-in on bright colours and playful characters and accidentally strip out the educational weight. Go the other direction, and you end up with something that reads like a textbook no 5-year-old wants to open.

The sweet spot was designing pages that felt like an adventure (exploring Australian geography as if you're actually travelling there) while still delivering real learning outcomes. Every spread needed to hold a child's attention and teach them something at the same time.

Illustration creation: I generated custom illustrations using Midjourney and ChatGPT, then refined and combined them with hand-crafted design elements. This gave each eBook a unique visual identity while keeping a consistent style across all 3 books.

Layout and structure: All 3 eBooks were built entirely in Canva, designed so the Inquisitive team could easily swap text, update images, or adapt pages for future editions without needing a designer.

Visual consistency: I developed a cohesive colour palette, typography system, and graphic language that tied the 3 books together as a series while giving each one its own personality based on the region it covered.

Age-appropriate design: Typography sizing, illustration complexity, and page density were all calibrated differently across the age range. Pages for 4–6 year olds are more visual and spacious; pages for 9–11 year olds carry more text and detail.

3 complete, editable geography eBooks ready for classroom use. Each book is packed with custom AI-assisted illustrations and bespoke design elements, built to make Australian geography feel like an exploration rather than a lesson. The Canva-native format means Inquisitive can maintain and evolve the books independently.
