Oistros Beach Bar | Menu & Landing Page Design & Development

Oistros is a beach bar outside Volos, set among palm trees on a stretch of coast that doesn't look like it belongs in central Greece. I designed both its menu and landing page as a first step toward any online presence at all.

Goals

For the landing page, the brief was straightforward: give people a feel for the place before they show up, make good use of the photography, cover the basics such as menu and directions and convince them to visit.
For the menu design, it had to feel minimal without losing Oistros' unique setting among palm trees and long sandy beaches. Afterall, the menu is the second touchpoint and ultimately determines how guests perceive a hospitality business. A messy, anarchic menu can signal sloppy practices, while an on-brand structured menu can encourage guests to revisit and feel welcomed.

Challenges

The photography was the real question. A bar like this lives or dies on atmosphere, and atmosphere is hard to translate into a grid of static images. The other challenge was tonal: Oistros has a specific personality — tropical, unhurried, a little escapist — and the site needed to carry that from the first second, not gradually earn it.
The bar had also earned quite a lot 5-star reviews on google, and past visitors highlighted specific experiences, such as the environment, the products and the service. Incorporating the aforementioned in the landing page without tiring the user and breaking the layout was a challenge.
As for the menu, Oistros' cocktails are its strongest product - combining top-notch spirits with fresh flavours and liquers always left guests entertained. We had to give quests an introduction into the ingredients of each cocktail without breaking the structure.

Outcome

The color choices, typography, and layout follow the bar's own visual language, so by the time a visitor reaches the menu, they already have a sense of where they're going. Photography is placed in a collage-type layout, while reviews highlight the most important areas guests found pleasurable. The reason for this choice is aligned with the business' goals; attract visitors and increase trust.
The menu follows brand guidelines closely, to ensure a coherent identity, which revolves around quiet luxury.
