Project brief

This case study demonstrates how I review AI-generated translation for meaning, naturalness, register, cultural fit, and product accuracy. The source copy is invented for the demonstration; it is not a client commission and makes no performance claim.

The fictional product is an invoice-reminder tool for Argentine freelancers. Its central promise is control: users configure a reminder, review it, and approve it before anything is sent.

English source

“Stay on top of unpaid invoices without chasing clients. Set a reminder once, review it before it goes out, and keep every conversation in one place. You stay in control of the relationship.”

Illustrative AI-style draft

“Mantente encima de las facturas no pagadas sin perseguir clientes. Establece un recordatorio una vez, revísalo antes de que salga y mantén cada conversación en un lugar. Tú permaneces en control de la relación.”

QA diagnosis

Literal calques. “Mantente encima” and “perseguir clientes” reproduce English images that sound awkward or needlessly aggressive in Spanish.

Register mismatch. The draft uses tuteo and neutral imperative forms. A product addressing Argentine freelancers should use consistent voseo unless its style guide specifies otherwise.

Ambiguous product behavior. “Antes de que salga” does not clearly state that the user reviews the reminder before it is sent. In product copy, this distinction affects trust.

Mechanical phrasing. “Mantén cada conversación en un lugar” is understandable, but it reads like a translation rather than copy written for the market.

Localized ES-AR

“Seguí tus facturas pendientes sin tener que insistirles a tus clientes. Configurá un recordatorio, revisalo antes de enviarlo y mantené toda la conversación en un solo lugar. Vos decidís cuándo escribirles y cuidás el vínculo.”

Editorial decisions

The revision replaces literal imagery with language an Argentine user would expect, applies voseo consistently, and makes the approval step explicit. It also preserves the source’s professional restraint: the copy promises a calmer workflow without portraying clients as adversaries.

“Vos decidís cuándo escribirles y cuidás el vínculo” is not a word-for-word rendering of “You stay in control of the relationship.” It is a functional localization: it expresses control through an action and connects that action to the commercial relationship the user wants to protect.

Verification boundary

Language review cannot certify product functionality. Before release, I would verify the interface, reminder logic, approval flow, terminology, character limits, and product style guide. If the reminder can be sent automatically without final approval, the localized claim must change.

Deliverable

A release-ready localized version, an issue log explaining the changes, and a short set of recommendations for terminology and Argentine Spanish voice.
