Massage therapy is evolving toward specialization as clients seek solutions for complex, persistent conditions. Therapists face stress and uncertainty when treating unfamiliar issues, lacking tools that combine their knowledge with client data for tailored care.
For therapists, these concerns look like:
Scheduling apps lacking SOAP note capability
Not having accessible evidence-based treatments
Not having a robust database of modalities and conditions
For clients, it solves common pain points like:
Being able to track and update profile information
Having regular viewing access to provider details
Being able to access and update intake forms regularly
Solution:
Massage Mastery was designed following in-depth user research and prototype testing with therapists to validate real-world needs. The app generates personalized treatment plans based on intake forms and SOAP notes, empowering therapists with customized protocols that enhance care quality and reduce preparation time.
Validating the problem:
I reached out to therapists in Oklahoma and Colorado who ranged from owning their own businesses to working for others.
Massage scheduling tool issues:
Research Insights
Validation
70% of therapists use some sort of note management app and 50% of clients book through an app.
Usability
Insights from the testing identified functional, usability, and clarity issues with the prototype.
Experience
An A/B test was conducted to ensure a relaxing experience from the moment of booking.
Design approach
The interface uses a calming palette and minimalist layout inspired by serene clinic environments. Visual design and workflows were iteratively refined through heatmap analysis and user feedback to balance simplicity, usability, and trust-building aesthetics.
Key Features
Easy booking
Real-time booking of preferred massage therapists with instant availability.
User profiles
Personalized profiles with session tracking available for both clients and therapists.
Treatment plans
Based on client intake forms, the app provides therapists with tailored treatments.
Impact:
Testing with therapists revealed increased confidence in treating specialized cases, faster session prep, and higher client satisfaction. While quantitative outcomes are pending, early validation encourages further iteration to grow adoption and optimize user experience.
