Orion Fintech Mobile App Design

In August 2024, I embarked on a journey that would stretch my creativity, challenge my UX thinking, and strengthen my resolve as a product designer. The result? Orion Fintech a feature-rich, intuitive mobile app tailored to solve real-world problems in the digital finance space.
But more than a project, Orion was a mission. A mission to build trust through design, ease financial anxiety through clarity, and deliver usability through thoughtful interaction.

🧭 Phase 1: Ground Zero – Research & Empathy (Days 1–10)

I started with a fundamental question: "Why do so many fintech apps overwhelm the users they are supposed to help?"
To answer this, I spent 10 focused days conducting user interviews (12 participants from different financial backgrounds) and mapping out their experiences using local and international financial apps. The key pain points emerged clearly:
Confusing onboarding processes
Complex transaction flows
Lack of budgeting awareness
Distrust in security systems
From these insights, I created 3 detailed personas: a small business owner, a salaried worker, and a student all reflecting unique user needs but unified by one goal: financial clarity and control.

✍️ Phase 2: Structure Before Style – Wireframes & User Flows (Days 11–16)

I moved into ideation mode. For 6 straight days, I sketched wireframes, tested flows, and mapped possible friction points. I kept asking myself:
"What would a financial app feel like if it truly respected your time and mental energy?"
I created:
A 2-screen sign-up process with optional KYC prompts
A dashboard-first home screen (not a menu jungle)
A spend tracking system that categorizes in real-time
A micro-budget tool users can set without a calculator
These weren’t just features they were answers to real user frustrations.

🎨 Phase 3: Visual Design & Branding (Days 17–26)

Here came the soul of the app. I chose a cool blue color scheme to evoke trust and calmness, paired with soft gradients and subtle elevation to give a sense of motion without noise. Typography was chosen for clarity with modern sans-serif fonts ensuring effortless readability.
This phase was where Figma became my closest companion. I clocked in 9+ hour days refining component libraries, testing accessibility contrast ratios, and building responsive assets from the ground up.
By the end of this phase, Orion had a cohesive visual identity not just beautiful but purposeful.

πŸ§ͺ Phase 4: Prototyping & Testing (Days 27–32)

With my prototype ready, I conducted 3 usability test sessions over 5 days. I observed closely, took notes, iterated. One insight came from a user who said:
"I just want to know if I’m spending too much before it’s too late."
This led me to redesign the transaction history to include spending insights right under each transaction list a small but game-changing addition.

πŸ” Phase 5: Final Polish – Microinteractions, Security Flows, & Edge Cases (Days 33–36)

I dedicated the final 4 days to details that often get overlooked:
Animating smooth transitions between pages
Designing a secure 2FA flow with biometric fallback
Creating empty state illustrations for when users have no data
Building a dark mode toggle for accessibility and visual comfort
These details elevated Orion from functional to delightful.

🏁 Final Outcome: Orion Fintech App

Orion isn’t just a case study it's a story of purpose and process. In just 36 days, I went from raw insights to a polished solution that responds to real user needs. Here's what it offers:
βœ… Seamless onboarding
βœ… Real-time transaction categorization
βœ… Intuitive budget creation and alerts
βœ… Insightful dashboards
βœ… Built-in support system
βœ… Secure authentication methods
The feedback on Behance and from industry peers has been incredibly encouraging, but for me, the true reward was in the process the grit, empathy, and craftsmanship behind every pixel.

πŸ’¬ Final Thoughts

As a designer, Orion reminded me that design is more than UI, it’s emotional, functional, and deeply human. I poured not just skills but soul into this project. Every decision, from a button’s corner radius to the layout of the budget tracker, was made to serve users better.
So when I look back at Orion, I see more than a fintech app, I see 36 days of dedication, focus, and a relentless pursuit of meaningful design.
