Self-initiated redesign project. This work was not commissioned by Zupan.
Zupan manufactures clutch servos for heavy vehicles, based in São José, Santa Catarina. Their packaging had the problem most industrial packaging has: everything on the box is shouting, so nothing is heard.
The problem
The existing range was crowded and inconsistent from one SKU to the next. Picture where it actually gets chosen — a parts store under fluorescent light, boxes stacked at angles, a mechanic scanning quickly for the right component. None of the hierarchy survived that context. The brand was present, but it wasn't recognisable.
What I changed
I kept blue as the brand's territory. It was the one asset already doing its job, and discarding it would have cost recognition for no gain.
Then three moves:
Diagonals to organise the reading. A diagonal field separates product information from brand territory, so the eye lands in a predictable place instead of hunting.
Front panel: the diagonal field separates product information from brand territory
The Z scaled up. The letter stops being a detail inside a logo and becomes a recognition signal at distance. With the boxes side by side on a shelf, the Z repeats and builds presence across the whole range — the system gets stronger the more of it you see.
Hierarchy for what actually sells. The quality seal and the "Indústria Brasileira" mark gained weight, because in this category they are purchase arguments, not legal footnotes. A QR code connects the box to technical content that would never fit on the panel.
The quality seal, promoted from footnote to purchase argument
Validation in 3D
The full range was modelled and rendered in Blender before anything was treated as final.
Packaging mistakes are expensive and slow to reverse. Proportion, material behaviour and the way light hits a varnish only become obvious in three dimensions — and by the time you're holding a printed box, the money is spent. Rendering moved those discoveries from the print run to the screen.

Self-initiated redesign of a clutch-servo packaging family. The Z scaled up as a recognition signal at distance, validated in 3D before any print run.
