A job platform to reduce job search frustration

JobCloud identified an opportunity to better engage Gen Z job seekers, prompting the launch of a fast-paced project with a startup mindset. The goal was to quickly understand user needs and develop a tailored solution.

Our initial research uncovered two key challenges: ghosting and the difficulty of finding entry-level job ads. We built the value proposition around addressing these issues, crafting a more engaging and effective job search experience for Gen Z users.

My role

I collaborated closely with the product manager, engineering manager, and developers throughout the product lifecycle, from defining concepts through workshops (Design sprints), user interviews, and surveys to designing high-fidelity prototypes tested with users.

Using the collected data and branding guidelines, I crafted an app that strikes a balance between playfulness and professionalism.
I advocated for features like transforming applications into chat-based interactions and implementing automatic status updates (e.g., “The recruiter saw your application”) to reduce frustration caused by ghosting.
Beyond UX, I also created two presentation videos, slide decks to showcase the project, an eBook, a website with framer and made various marketing materials.

Results

We conducted user interviews and surveys to evaluate users satisfaction and our product/market fit. When asked why they use it, users cite the concept and, above all, its easy and intuitive design as their top reasons. The only downside identified so far is the lack of content. The app is now growing rapidly.

What I learned

Being fully involved in product development gave me a deeper understanding of its various aspects and constraints. With greater involvement in product decisions, I improved my negotiation and communication skills. Finally, I expanded my UX design toolkit by acquiring new skills in no-code web development, marketing, 3D modeling, and AI (LLM) comprehension.
