Find My Seat: From a crowded seating board to a seat in seconds.

Find My Seat began as a single seating page for a real wedding. I designed and built it into a mobile-first platform for weddings and seated events, covering the guest web app, event admin system, couple approvals, venue partner programme, online payments, and the marketing site at findmyseat.io.

The challenge

At large weddings, hundreds of guests arrive at once and crowd around a printed seating board. Small print, multi-floor venues, and late changes make the experience harder for guests and staff alike.
The original version also needed to become a business that could run many events without code, take payments online, and grow through venue partners.

Phase 1: Prove it at a real wedding

The first live event served 443 guests across 39 tables on a ground floor and balcony.
Guests scanned a QR code, searched their name, and saw their table instantly.
A venue map traced from the floor plan showed all 39 tables in their real positions, including the balcony and an upstairs message.
A validation script checked every guest and table against the couple’s approved file, with later changes logged.
The page was hidden from search engines, had no tracking, and contained only names that would have appeared on the printed board.

Phase 2: Build a platform for any event

One app and database now run every event through an admin panel rather than code.

Guest app

Typo-tolerant search, so “Hanna Jons” can still find Hana Jones
Table, side, and floor for every guest
A venue map that lights up the guest’s table
Optional PIN protection and custom couple colours

Admin system

Create events from a template
Import guests from Excel or CSV with a check report
Drag guests between tables, place tables on an uploaded floor plan, choose a theme, and publish
Download QR codes, exports, and backups

Couple approvals and venue partners

Couples get a private link to check the plan, approve it, or request corrections guest by guest. Changes after approval are listed.
The system supports weddings, charity dinners, awards, and conferences, with custom sections and venue zones. Venue partners get private dashboards with a referral link, QR code, printable A5 flyer, ready-made WhatsApp and social messages, and commission tracking.
An enquiry pipeline, outreach tracker, and weekly stats support the commercial side. Guest names automatically expire and are scheduled for deletion after each event.

Phase 3: Sell it through the website, payments, and domain

The marketing site serves 2 audiences through dedicated couples and venues pages, each with its own story, live demo, FAQs, and brochure download.
An animated phone in the hero shows a guest searching and finding their table.
An interactive 3D venue view is drawn from a real floor plan.
A WhatsApp chat box prepares visitor questions for sending.
findmyseat.io is connected with www as the main address, path-preserving redirects, SSL, and the existing business email untouched.

Online payments

Couples choose a package, provide wedding details, and pay in full through Stripe’s embedded checkout, with cards, Apple Pay, Google Pay, and Link supported.
Flow: Choose package → Wedding details → Secure payment → Confirmation → Booked + Paid in admin
Prices come from the server-side package list. Verified Stripe webhooks are signature-checked and processed once, so a booking cannot be marked paid twice. Paid bookings feed sales stats and partner commission, while refunds update the record to “Refunded”. If payments are unavailable, the form still saves the booking as an enquiry.

Design and technology

The UI was designed directly in code with HTML and CSS, using the brand system: Ink (#111111), Warm Ivory (#F7F4EE), Cormorant Garamond, and Inter. SVG assets were used for the logo, icons, and venue maps.
Next.js 16, React 19, and TypeScript
Supabase (Postgres)
Stripe embedded checkout and webhooks
Vercel hosting and deployment
IONOS domain and DNS for findmyseat.io
Vitest automated testing
Higgsfield (GPT Image 2.5) for website photography
Claude Code (Anthropic) for AI-assisted development, testing, and deployment

Quality, privacy, and accessibility

The platform includes 43 automated tests covering search, data validation, approvals, payments, stats, and data upgrades. It uses AVIF and WebP images, 2K hero visuals, and a vector logo.
Security includes a hashed admin password, private couple and partner links, and least-privilege payment keys. SEO metadata and link-preview images support sharing, while private pages stay out of search results. Large readable text, visible keyboard focus, and screen-reader labels support accessibility. Automated desktop and mobile checks catch errors, horizontal scrolling, and stretched images before release.

Outcome

Find My Seat grew from a one-off wedding page into a live platform that one person can run. Couples can book and pay online, approve their plan, and share a QR code. Guests can find their seats quickly, and venues can earn commission for recommending the service.
A complete booking-to-wedding-day journey, live at findmyseat.io
Events can be set up from the admin panel without code
Payments, partner referrals, and sales tracking are built into the platform
