Client Overview

MIKO is a leading online foot massager shop. Here, you will find various foot massagers and body massagers, air purifiers, and humidifiers with patented technologies, robust functionalities, and affordable prices. The brand launched its first foot massager in 2018.
Today, Shop Miko offers a full line of body massagers and foot massagers. as well as HEPA air purifiers for different home sizes and a brilliant cold and warm mist humidifier.
In 2022, Miko rebranded as a wellness online marketplace and began carrying third-party products that align with its mission and values.

The Problem

The client came to us with a DIY Shopify site that disregards most web design best practices. The content was also poorly optimized, and some was outdated. The images were not optimized, leading to a heavy loading burden and extremely slow initial loading. The client also hasn’t conducted any keyword research before putting the website together, wasting many good opportunities to rank high on product-related and high-intent keywords. Since the client has a highly-optimized Amazon storefront, his biggest challenge was that his website wasn’t getting sufficient organic traffic. Most visitors came directly to the site to register their devices.

The Solution

Website Optimization Using the Existing Design

The client clarified that a full website redesign did not align with his goals. Therefore, we chose to work with his existing template, starting with optimizing UI and performance on the desktop and mobile end.
We started with tackling some responsiveness and UX issues, including an extremely unstable mobile layout, then moved onto converting all images into newer, lighter formats and tweaking the design to be more user-friendly.

Technical Optimization

Site speed was our major concern, as the client preferred to keep all existing video headers. Therefore, we implemented a comprehensive technical optimization leveraging lazy loading, a more efficient cache policy, and reduced media sizes. We also removed redundant plugins, CSS, unused but active page templates, and idle Javascript.

Targeted Keyword Strategy

Evaluating the client’s goals and current site structure, we developed a keyword strategy focusing on MOF and BOF keywords with a lower search volume but higher buying intent. On top of sitewide keywords such as online massage shops and where to buy foot massagers online, we created separate, product-specific keyword strategies to ensure each product reaches maximized rankability without competing against each other.

Updated Website Content

Once we have the new keywords, we updated the general copies and product pages accordingly. The client’s previous content was poorly written and failed to provide the necessary information to encourage visitors to purchase. The new content is well-optimized, rich in information, and beautifully formatted for the best user experience.

The Results

Improved Performance

The results from our technical optimization were obvious. We reduced CLS down to 0.09 and total blocking time to 77ms with 95% structure stability without removing any existing images and videos. LCP remained around 1.3s on the desktop but was resolved with a static video thumbnail image on the mobile end to ensure high performance. We also implemented additional optimizations for product pages to ensure fast, user-friendly rendering across devices with easy ways to check out.

Traffic Increase

A steady increase was identified over month-to-month performance during the first three months after the initial optimization. This client had a 4-month window before we started large-scale content optimization for competitive ranking. Therefore, our goal was to maintain the growth momentum after the new site launch.
