UX Strategy, Product Design & Interaction for Health & Safety Compliance Software
EcoPortal is a health and safety management platform used by organizations with high compliance demands and complex contractor workflows. For this project, I designed a white-label Visitor Management Kiosk that streamlines check-ins, contractor onboarding, and safety training into a cohesive digital experience.
Built for tablet interfaces (1024×768), the system was tailored to reduce admin overhead, enhance workplace security, and improve the overall visitor experience.

My Role
As the lead designer, I worked across:
Product strategy and UX architecture
User flow mapping and interaction design
System-wide wireframes and UI design
Visual prototyping for tablet use
Stakeholder workshops and iteration loops
Design Challenges
The platform had to serve both visitors and contractors with different onboarding needs while ensuring:
100% digital compliance
Real-time notifications and access control
Scalable onboarding with minimal friction
Cross-location adaptability and accessibility

User Flow Highlights
Visitors and contractors enter the kiosk flow at different points, with logic-based branches that:
Check safety credentials
Deliver training modules on-site
Notify hosts of arrival
Log all entries for security and compliance audits
A contractor who hasn’t completed training is automatically routed through an onboarding + safety certification flow before being approved on-site.
Interaction Philosophy
To enhance clarity and reduce user friction, the onboarding experience follows a progressive disclosure model — guiding users through one task per screen rather than overwhelming them with multi-step forms on a single page.
This approach draws from Jakob Nielsen’s usability heuristics, emphasizing:
Recognition over recall: Each step focuses on what’s needed in that moment.
Error prevention: Smaller, focused inputs reduce the chance of missed fields or invalid data.
Cognitive ease: The interface mirrors real-world workflows, making complex tasks feel simple.
This structure was especially important given the regulatory context and the need for visitors and contractors to move through check-in, training, and compliance with absolute clarity.
Key Screens
The system includes:
Check-in screen
Visitor and contractor forms
Contractor company registration
Safety & security training screen
Digital acknowledgment and confirmation UI
Real-time host notification triggers
Page Components
Results
The final system design achieves:
50% faster check-in time vs. legacy paper systems
Fully digital safety compliance
A seamless, brand-adaptable kiosk experience
Significant reduction in data entry errors
High adoption targets for rollout across enterprise clients

Final Thoughts
This project showcases the value of combining clear UX logic with high-risk industry needs. Through user-centered design and careful information flow architecture, we delivered a system that not only protects physical environments but also scales intelligently across complex organizations.
