Driving Adoption of Mobile Payments and Virtual Cards through End-to-End Experience Optimisation

Context

Moss is a B2B spend management platform providing companies with corporate cards, expense controls, and real time visibility over company spending. The product combines card issuing, payments, and financial controls into a single platform used by finance teams and employees.

Objective

Increase adoption and usage of digital payment methods by improving the end to end experience across card provisioning, mobile wallet integration, and transaction execution.

Problem

Although the platform had strong card issuing capabilities, adoption was constrained by fragmented payment journeys and friction in key flows such as card provisioning, mobile wallet setup, and transaction execution. Users lacked clarity on how to use virtual cards effectively, and the experience did not fully support fast, reliable payment initiation across channels. This limited activation, repeat usage, and overall product value..

Solution

Focused on improving the full payment lifecycle from card creation to successful transaction, ensuring a consistent and reliable experience across backend payment infrastructure and frontend user journeys. This included optimising provisioning flows, enabling seamless mobile wallet integration, and strengthening controls around how payments are initiated and executed.
Delivered improvements across payment orchestration, including clearer user flows for virtual card usage, reduced friction in wallet provisioning, and tighter alignment between payment method capabilities and user expectations. Security and compliance requirements such as tokenisation and authentication were embedded directly into the experience to support both trust and scalability.

Key Deliverables

Mobile Payment Integration

Enabled Apple Pay within the mobile app, allowing users to initiate payments seamlessly across in-store and online contexts. Designed and implemented end-to-end provisioning flows, reducing friction in card enrolment and improving activation. Built secure tokenisation and authentication aligned with scheme and regulatory requirements, ensuring a consistent experience between backend card issuing and frontend wallet usage.

Virtual Card Implementation

Delivered single-use virtual cards to improve transaction security and reduce fraud exposure. Built team-based virtual cards with clear ownership, spend controls, and budget alignment for business use cases. Enabled real-time transaction visibility, giving users immediate feedback and control at the point of payment. Defined rules around card usage, limits, and lifecycle to balance flexibility with compliance.

End-to-End Payment Flow Optimisation

Reduced friction across the full payment journey from card creation through to successful transaction execution. Improved clarity around payment methods and usage, increasing confidence and repeat usage. Aligned frontend experience with backend payment orchestration to ensure reliability across different payment scenarios. Embedded security, compliance, and control mechanisms directly into the user flow rather than as separate steps.
