A devotional exploring the comforts in the word of God for the lonely aged in society.
A Devotional for the Lonely Aged
A scripture promise
“And even to your old age I am he; and even to hoar hairs will I carry you: I have made, and I will bear; even I will carry, and will deliver you.” [Isaiah 46:4]
Consider…
What a wonderful promise from a Father of love.
He sees your tears as your eyes shed sorrows in contemplating loved ones who have passed on.
He understands your heart of loneliness, longing for by-gone days when your home was filled with noise, laughter and family.
He knows how much your heart yearns for your other half now lying in the marked grave awaiting the call to awake from our Lord and Savior.
He reminds you dear little one (for in God’s eyes we are all his children, even when we are old and grey) of his forever, never-ending presence in your life, of his promises to renew, revive, and restore all that you have lost, yea even more.
He says…
I will never leave thee nor forsake thee. (Heb.13:5)
I am he that liveth, and was dead; and, behold, I am alive for evermore. (Rev.1:18)
I am the first, and I am the last. (Isaiah 44:6)
I am Alpha and Omega, the beginning and the ending. (Rev.1:8).
I am the resurrection, and the life. (John 11:25)
Behold, I make all things new. (Rev 21:5)
Reflect…
Throughout your life, his eyes have watched over you, drawing you to himself, teaching you, correcting you, directing you. He has kept you from dangers and harm. Countless times, he has snatched you from the clutches of death.
And now that your old and grey, feeling lonely and perhaps of little worth. Jesus is saying, I still need you. I still hear you. I still long to walk and talk with you. I will stay with you until I give you rest from your labors. I was there at the beginning of your life. I have been there throughout your life, and I will be there until the end of your life.
Now remember and Do…
Your Father is ever near, he has never left, and neither will he ever leave.
Call unto him. Share all that is on your heart, unburden your soul, and allow him to supply all your current wants. He will not fail you. He will heal you.
Take pleasure in him, “…for the joy of the Lord is your strength.” [Neh. 8:10]
