Let There Be Light
“Daddy, can I meet Jesus?” Christian asked as his dad put him down to sleep.
“You will Christian when Jesus returns to earth with all the angels to take us home to Heaven with him,” his dad replied happily.
“But I want to see him now,” his 4-year-old son insisted.
“That’s not possible; not yet; now come and start sleeping,” his dad instructed pulling the sheet over him.
“Ok. Good night daddy,” Christian whispered as his father closed his bedroom door.
But Christian did not go to sleep, not yet. He remembered a scripture he had learned earlier that morning:
Ask, and it shall be given you; seek, and ye shall find; knock, and the door shall be opened unto you. [Matthew 7:7]
“The Bible never lies,” Christian said out loud. “I am going to do just what it says.”
So Christian asked God to let him see Jesus, then he looked for Jesus coming through his bedroom window.
Finally, he began knocking softly on his heart. He remembered that his dad always says, “God knocks softly on our hearts.”
Then he waited and he waited…
As Christian began to get even sleepier, a big, bright, blinding light shone through his bedroom window. It was so bright that Christian had to tightly close his eyes.
“Be not afraid little one,” a sweet-sounding voice said, “Open your eyes and look at me.”
Slowly Christian opened his eyes … he was speechless; it was an angel. It was really an angel. He was very tall and shiny, and beautiful.
“Woooow!” Christian said stunned.
“Do you still want to see Jesus?” the angel asked.
“Yes, yes, I do, really, really badly,” Christian responded enthusiastically.
“Then let’s go,” the angel said.
Christian wanted to know if his dad could come, but the angel said it was a trip only for him and that his dad would be there when he got back.
So, Christian took the angel’s hand and off they flew.
They flew through the air, through clouds, passing stars, and the moon, and then a wide door opened in the middle of the sky.
“What’s that?” Christian asked excitedly.
“That is the firmament,” the angel said smiling.
On and on they flew then Christian’s eyes grew wide with fear, “We’re gonna drown!” he cried out.
“Be not fearful but believing,” the angel said, “Jesus watches over us.” And through the great water, they flew swifter than an eagle.
They came from the waters as dry as chip and arrived at the most magnificent gate Christian had ever seen in his life.
The angel then took out a gold card and showed it to another angel guarding the gate, and the great golden gate was opened.
With glee, Christian looked at the most magnificent city his eyes had ever beheld. All he could say was, “Wow! Wow!”
Then without any warning, the angel disappeared, and the place became darker than night.
Thick, darkness surrounded and covered him and Christian became very scared. He was now all alone; he gulped and water filled his eyes.
“Let there be light,” he then heard. It was as if the thunder had spoken.
He looked up from his tear-filled eyes and a most majestic being covered in fire and light was walking towards him.
