In Jan/Feb 2021 I designed Scoby, a video teleconferencing app for seminars. The task was to make huge video calls fun- to try to capture some of the energy of an in-person conference and squeeze that into a phone experience.
A New Video Experience
A "discussion" format where video tiles are laid out like a roundtable- with each member having equally sized squares
A "pitch day" format where a line of hosts calls up each guest one-by-one
A "guided practice" format for seminars where one host dominates the screen
A "townhall" format for large groups to exchange ideas and make group decisions
Creating a session.
Session setup splash screen.
Widgets
Hosts can make available a litany of fun interactivity widgets for the guests. Here's a few:
Other interactions
Hosts also have large-scale interactions and games they can turn on for their guests-
During icebreakers, large sessions are broken into small groups, with each member of the small group put on a timer with a task.
Session hosts can customize a variety of different intro backgrounds and animations for their video calls. Here's an example of a default fade in option.
The "Talking Stick" allows hosts to designate different guests to take turns talking- turning large group experiences into productive and meaningful conversations.
