Nexes: Education Web App

A university-grade LMS built around gamification, multi-format content management, and motivation by design, so students don't just access their courses, they come back every day.

One platform, two layers of content, institutional and personal.

Nexus is a web-based Learning Management System designed to serve as a student's single academic hub. It operates on a dual-content model: universities publish their official courses directly on the platform, and students supplement that structured curriculum with their own uploaded study material: PDFs, videos, links, audio recordings, and notes, all organized in the same place.
University courses come pre-structured with chapters, lessons, and assessments. They are available to enrolled students automatically based on their university affiliation. Personal content, by contrast, is entirely student-owned, a flexible layer for supplementary resources, past-exam notes, YouTube lectures, and professor recordings that live alongside the official curriculum.
The business model is freemium SaaS: a capable free tier drives adoption and word-of-mouth, while a Premium subscription unlocks unlimited personal content creation, exclusive webinars, and early access to new features, giving every design decision two simultaneous goals: keep free users engaged long enough to convert, and give paying users enough value to retain.

Designed with growth in mind

Every design decision traces back to a business objective, retention, conversion, adoption, or growth.

A motivational hub, not a menu

Most LMS dashboards are passive they show what exists, not what matters right now. The Nexus dashboard is engineered around active motivation: resume your last lesson, see your streak before it breaks, check today's schedule, and track your weekly XP all above the fold.
4 stat cards (Learning Time, Game Time, Total XP, Daily Streaks) quick, scannable status
"Continue Where You Left Off" banner reduces decision fatigue, one click to resume
Daily Streaks module visual week strip with flame icons; missing a day is immediately visible
Today's Schedule lesson + Game Room time side by side; the calendar in context
Daily Progress chart week/month/year toggle, filterable by course
Persistent "Upgrade to Premium" card in sidebar contextual upsell without disrupting flow

Two sources of content, one seamless library

The content library serves two distinct types of courses. University courses are provided by the institution structured, pre-built, and available automatically based on the student's enrollment. Personal courses are created by the student from their own uploaded material. Both live in the same library, organized under folders, with the same browsing and progress tracking experience.

Focused learning with full curriculum awareness

When students open a lesson, they need to consume content without losing their place in the curriculum. A persistent right-panel chapter navigator keeps the full course map visible while watching video — no navigation away required.

4 input modes, one unified flow

University learning material arrives in every format imaginable PDFs, YouTube videos, audio recordings, written notes. A platform that only accepts file uploads fails most students most of the time. Nexus unifies all four input types into a single interface.

Quizzes that feel like games, not tests

Passive re-reading is the least effective study method. Active recall works, but quizzes feel like punishment, not play. The Game Room is a timed, hint-enabled quiz engine with real-time progress, 3 question types, and a detailed results breakdown.

Competitive accountability at course level

Without social comparison, maintaining motivation requires extraordinary willpower. The leaderboard shows your rank, weekly movement, and a top-3 podium filtered by course to avoid demoralizing new users.

Schedule-aware learning structure

Study sessions lack structure without visibility. The calendar syncs course lessons and Game Room sessions into a weekly view any item from any screen can be added in one tap via the slide panel.

Conversion without interruption

The Upgrade card is persistent in the sidebar always visible on every page, never modal, never blocking content. When clicked, a clean pricing page with 3 billing tiers and a 7-day free trial CTA removes commitment anxiety. Quarterly tier is pre-highlighted a proven pricing psychology anchor.

Academic identity in one place

Three profile tabs Overview, Games History, Certificates show who the user is, what they've accomplished, and what they've earned. Profile completion ring with a gentle CTA applies progress psychology to the profile itself. Certificates are downloadable visual cards tangible proof of mastery.
