A recent blog post I wrote on my personal website about my most played songs right now

5 Songs That Kept Me Motivated This Month

As I’ve said before, it’s been tough lately. But the one thing that kept me going this month, was music.
Music has always been there for me, making me feel less lonely when I needed it the most. When I thought I had no one, there was always a song that kept me going.
Today, I bring you the songs that have saved me lately, and helped me not to give up. Whether it’s a hopeful message, or a catchy riff that helped me cheer up, or an anthem that reminded me to prove everyone wrong.
So, here they are:
5. “Baby, I’m an Anarchist!” by Against Me!
Well, the title says it all. And I got to see Laura Jane Grace a couple months ago, and made me love her music even more.
4. “Great Party” by Frank Iero and the Future Violents
One of the first songs I discovered from Frank’s solo music, and it made me fall in love with his talent. He has such good lyrics and so relatable. “Just when you thought it can’t get worse, always it does”. Art!
3. “Pelo Suelto” (cover) by FEA
This Gloria Trevi cover fucks. Back when I was like four or five, I was a huge fan of hers, and loved her “rebel without a cause” aesthetic. Messy hair and makeup, fishnets and combat boots. I even did a whole impression in my kindergarten festival, which is kinda messed up to think about now. Anyway, this song ended up being my mantra. “Pelo suelto” means “hair down” but it’s about not being what everyone expects from you and beating to your own drum. Being authentically yourself, as loud and crazy as you are. And this Mexican-American punk band does a great cover.
2. “Boy Division” by My Chemical Romance
Of course, My Chem had to be part of this playlist. This is one of their best songs, even though it’s not that mainstream because it was only released as part of their “scratched up album”, and there’s no way you listen to it and don’t feel like dancing.
“Benadryl Subreddit” by L. S. Dunes
It’s only been a week since this one was released and I can’t stop listening to it. It’s so catchy, and you feel like you’re in a videogame, running for your life and this is the song playing. I hope that I can make it to their show in a couple weeks so I get to see it live, because that’s the only reason I haven’t given up.
Anyway, enjoy! Let me know what you think…
