Referral Project | Edtech

An example of product innovation from my last job in the Edtech industry. I was part of the marketing team that sold coding and maths courses to different countries around the world (USA, UK, Australia and India)

One of the challenges we found in the coding course was that it was hard for a student to demonstrate their new skill to their parents or friends (as opposed to learning a musical instrument where a student can showcase a song or a few chords that they have just learned to their parents or friends) To tackle this, we created a small module within the main coding course - where a student would learn about UI/UX through an app - design the app and then the link to the app would be sent to their parents to interact with. (Small interactions like scrolling or clicking a button) Then we asked the parents to share this link with their friends and family to get feedback on the app and we incentivised the feedback by offering 2 free coding classes if they shared feedback.

For my role, it was my job to bring all of the departments together and make sure work went on well. I got in touch with the academic team to understand the type of app that could be built. I then approached the design/UX team to design an app and website. Once the app and website designs were approved, I passed this on to our tech team who developed the same. Once this was done, it was passed back to the academic team who then coached the teachers and counselors on how to use this in their teaching program. Once the whole cycle was implemented, I reached out to the development team to understand the analytics and found out that the referral rate of the entire activity was at 25%.

This initiative was a huge success and we received a lot of positive feedback from parents and upper management.
