Case Study: Revamping a Heritage Denim Brand for the Digital Era
Brand Overview
ZAZA Denim is a contemporary denim clothing brand known for its high-quality craftsmanship and sustainable production. Despite having a superior product, the brand struggled to connect with Gen Z and Millennial consumers, facing stagnant online sales and low digital engagement due to an outdated social media presence and a friction-heavy e-commerce experience.
The Challenge
The brand needed a complete digital overhaul. The goals were twofold: transform their social media channels into a highly engaging, community-driven ecosystem, and redesign their product touchpoints (both the e-commerce website and physical packaging) to deliver a seamless, premium customer journey.
My Role: Social Media Manager & Product Designer
As the dual-threat freelancer on this project, I bridged the gap between how the brand looked on social media and how users interacted with the product online and offline.
1. As a Social Media Manager, I Handled:
Content Strategy & Art Direction: Developed a new visual identity for Instagram, TikTok, and Pinterest, shifting from static product shots to dynamic, lifestyle-focused, and raw "behind-the-scenes" content.
Community Building & Influencer Relations: Sourced and managed partnerships with micro-influencers to build social proof. I also implemented a proactive community management strategy to boost daily engagement.
Campaign Management: Planned and executed the launch campaign for the new "Eco-Fit" denim line, aligning paid ads with organic content schedules.
2. As a Product Designer (UI/UX & Packaging), I Handled:
E-commerce Website Redesign: Conducted user research and wireframing to overhaul the mobile shopping experience, focusing heavily on simplifying the "Fit Finder" tool and streamlining the checkout flow.
Sustainable Packaging Design: Designed the physical unboxing experience, creating eco-friendly, minimalist hangtags and mailer boxes that doubled as collectible brand assets.
Prototyping & Testing: Created high-fidelity Figma prototypes and conducted usability testing to ensure a frictionless transition from social media ads to website conversions.
Key Deliverables
Social Media & Content
Comprehensive Social Media Playbook: A 30-page guide detailing the brand’s new voice, visual guidelines, and content pillars.
90-Day Content Calendar: A curated mix of high-performing Reels, TikToks, and static carousels.
Influencer Seeding Kit: A streamlined brief and outreach template for ongoing creator partnerships.
Product & UX Design
Full UI/UX Design System: A scalable Figma library including typography, components, and interactive prototypes for the e-commerce store.
Interactive "Fit Finder" Tool: A simplified, 3-step digital quiz that helps users find their perfect denim size, reducing return rates.
Print-Ready Packaging Files: Custom dielines and assets for sustainable mailer boxes, inserts, and hangtags.
The Turnaround (Results & Impact)
By aligning the top-of-funnel social media marketing with a seamless, intuitive digital product design, the brand experienced a massive business turnaround within 6 months of launch:
Sales Growth: Achieved a 42% increase in e-commerce conversion rates, driven by the streamlined mobile checkout and the new Fit Finder tool.
Audience Expansion: Grew the organic social media following by 155% across Instagram and TikTok, successfully shifting the customer demographic toward the targeted 18–34 age range.
Increased Engagement: Multiplied the average social media engagement rate by 3x, resulting in over 1.2 million organic views on the launch campaign.
Reduced Returns: The improved sizing UX on the website led to a 28% drop in product returns and exchanges, significantly saving the client operational costs.
Brand Perception: The premium packaging design resulted in a surge of user-generated content (UGC), with hundreds of customers organically sharing their "unboxing videos" on social media.
