Custom Digital Portrait Illustrations by Jagyasini Singh

What started as a personal exploration of digital portrait art soon turned into a meaningful journey of storytelling and connection. In March 2022, during the quiet days of lockdown, I began illustrating portraits of celebrities, athletes and public figures - using only my right index finger, without a stylus or advanced tools. To my surprise, these portraits gained recognition and the appreciation I received inspired me to take my art further.

This project focuses on turning real people into illustrated portraits that still feel like them. Not just in features, but in energy.

A good portrait illustration should do more than copy a face. It should capture expression, softness, mood, style and the small details that make someone recognizable. That is what makes it feel personal instead of generic.

A lot of digital portraits look technically correct but emotionally empty.

Some look too flat.

Some look too polished.

Some stop feeling like illustration and start feeling like a filter.

I create custom digital portrait illustrations for individuals, gifts, personal brands and special occasions.

Each portrait is designed to capture personality, emotion and memorable moments through a hand-drawn illustration style.

That means paying attention not only to facial structure but also to posture, styling, colour mood, background choices and the overall emotional tone of the portrait.

Seeing the impact of my illustrations, I transformed them into animated GIFs, bringing movement and life to my work. I uploaded them on Tenor and Giphy, where they quickly gained traction under the name "JAG Illustrations." This visibility led to countless opportunities- people from all over the world reached out, asking me to create personalized digital portraits for them and their loved ones.

One of the most defining moments in my journey was in 2023, when I illustrated a portrait of my school biology teacher as a token of gratitude. Gifting her that framed artwork made me realize that portraits aren’t just drawings - they are memories, emotions and timeless keepsakes.

Through this project, I have created:

I do not treat portrait illustration as a copy-paste exercise.

I treat it as interpretation.

That means I look for what makes the person feel like themselves. Sometimes it is the smile. Sometimes it is the eyes. Sometimes it is the hairstyle, the softness of the pose or the awkward little expression that makes the whole portrait feel alive.

This is especially important for personal portraits, creator branding and profile illustrations, because people want to feel seen... not just digitally redrawn.
