Animated food gifs on Giphy

It all began with a simple question: "What’s your favorite dish?"

I asked my Instagram followers, curious about the foods that made their hearts (and taste buds) happiest. The responses flooded in and I was inspired to bring them to life -through illustrations and animations.

This project is about one of my favourite things to create: food GIFs.

On June 9, 2021, I posted my first food GIF and little did I know, this fun experiment would spark a creative journey that would captivate thousands.

Food already has emotion built into it. It carries memory, cravings, culture, humour, comfort and sometimes full family drama in one tiny bite.

My goal was to turn that feeling into short, expressive GIFs that people could actually use online in Blogs, Instagram Stories, WhatsApp chats, reactions, captions and everyday digital conversations

What started as a playful passion project quickly gained traction, turning into something much more special. My food GIFs, tagged #FoodByJag, are now scattered across the internet, from Giphy and Tenor to social media platforms everywhere.

They have found their way into viral trends, featured in publications like Times of India, and amassed millions of views. It's humbling to see the love and laughter my creations have brought to so many.

Some of my food GIFs were featured or mentioned by India Today and News18, which helped validate the work beyond normal social media performance.

For me, this was an important moment because it proved that GIFs can travel beyond GIPHY search results and social sharing.

When the concept is simple, the animation is clear and the emotion is familiar, even a small food GIF can become part of a bigger online conversation.
