In late October 2024, I stumbled upon something unexpected...a new creative outlet that would turn into one of my most exciting ventures. It all started with a simple moment of inspiration. One day, I saw an Instagram friend, a talented digital artist, publish her own coloring book. It was a spark of motivation and I thought, why not give it a try?

Coloring book artwork looks simple from the outside, but it needs a very specific kind of thinking.

The illustration has to be beautiful, but not too crowded.

Detailed, but still relaxing.

Clean enough to print well.

If the lines are too messy, people do not enjoy coloring it.

If the design is too empty, it feels boring.

If the details are too tiny, it becomes frustrating.

If the composition is weak, the page does not feel complete.

The challenge is to create illustrations that feel inviting from the first look and satisfying to complete.

Whether it is a children’s activity page, a mandala, a cozy object illustration, a character-based design or a printable coloring sheet, every piece needs to work both as artwork and as something someone can interact with.

What began as a personal project quickly grew into something much more. I created my first set of illustrations, formatted them for Amazon KDP and before I knew it, I was holding my own coloring books in my hands - available for the world to enjoy.

This experience was an eye-opener. I learned the importance of things like line clarity, layout and maintaining a cohesive theme. It wasn’t just about drawing; it was about creating something that would captivate and inspire others. The sense of fulfilment when seeing my designs come to life was beyond words and it ignited a new passion within me.

I do not create coloring pages as random outlines.

I create them as finished illustration products.

That means I think about:

how the page will print

how the user will color it

whether the details are enjoyable or annoying

whether the design feels complete

whether the theme is clear

whether the artwork can work as part of a book, printable pack or activity product

This matters especially for authors, publishers, educators and printable product sellers, because coloring book illustrations need to be usable... not just pretty.
