Optimising a 2-sided Marketplace

I took over ownership of a B2B marketplace for artisans to find new outlets to sell their merchandise and for small boutique shops to discover new makers and products for their stores. At the time, the majority of new product discovery for small shops in Germany occurred through networking or large-scale trade shows and our aim was to disrupt and digitize product discovery for stores and sales for small-scale artisans.

I worked alongside the founding team to grow artisan representation and diversity, create an equitable and sustainable profit model, and run tests to optimize the Shopify storefront. On the demand side, we frequented stores and trade shows to increase awareness of our brand and used a range of user research techniques to identify gaps in the market and launch new product lines. The pandemic slowed our growth and more well-funded players such as Faire ended up capturing the demand for digital B2B sales.
