Problem
Problem
The denim market, while highly established, is constrained by rigid woven constructions, limiting comfort, flexibility, and innovation in product design.
At the same time, emerging trends in athleisure and performance apparel were driving demand for:
Stretch, body-adaptive garments
Improved comfort and freedom of movement
New aesthetics blending fashion and performance
However, seamless technology had never been successfully applied to denim-like products, creating a gap between innovation potential and market application.
I have identified the opportunity to redefine denim by merging knitting technology, advanced fibers, and finishing processes, but this required the development of new machinery and alignment across multiple partners.

Solution

Led the market introduction of DEN/IM, a new category of seamless knit denim, enabled by:
Development of the SM8/EVO4J GG20 machine, engineered specifically for indigo knit structures
Integration of Lenzing TENCEL™ fibers, delivering softness, stretch, and sustainability
Advanced garment finishing technologies (Tonello) to replicate authentic denim aesthetics
Key innovations:
Creation of denim-inspired seamless garments, combining the look of denim with the comfort of knitwear
Ability to produce body-hugging, flexible, and lightweight garments across multiple categories
Expansion of seamless technology into fashion and lifestyle segments beyond sportswear
High design flexibility enabling full capsule collections from head to toe

Impact

Introduced a new product category: seamless knit denim, redefining traditional denim construction
Generated increased sales and strong market traction following the capsule launch
Received positive consumer feedback on comfort, fit, and style
Enabled seamless technology to expand into fashion/lifestyle beyond performance apparel
Strengthened Santoni’s positioning as an innovation leader capable of creating new market segments
My Role
Led the cross-functional coordination, go-to-market strategy, and commercial positioning of the DEN/IM project.
Orchestrated collaboration between Santoni, Lenzing, Unitin, and Tonello, aligning materials, technology, and finishing
Defined the product and market positioning, translating technical innovation into a compelling consumer proposition
Led marketing and launch strategy, positioning DEN/IM as a new category within the denim and athleisure space
Oversaw machine testing, product validation, and quality control, ensuring readiness for industrial application
Acted as interface between R&D, production, and brand-facing activities, bridging innovation and commercialization
