Problem
The fashion industry increasingly demands products that combine aesthetic differentiation with performance functionality, particularly at the intersection of denim and athleisure.
However, key challenges limited innovation:
Traditional quilting and denim constructions rely on multi-layer cut & sew processes, increasing cost and complexity
Difficulty in achieving consistent multi-layer structures without visible seams
This created an opportunity to redefine outerwear by merging denim aesthetics with seamless performance technology.
Solution
Led the development of an innovative seamless multi-layer construction, enabling a fully reversible quilted jacket through advanced knitting technology.
Key innovations:
Creation of a three-layer seamless knitted structure, integrating different yarns within a single process
Use of engineered stitch techniques to bind layers together, generating a natural quilting effect
Development of reversible functionality, allowing dual aesthetics (active vs. smart denim look)
Integration of 3D textures and reinforced zones, enhancing both performance and design flexibility
This approach enabled:
Elimination of traditional quilting processes
Increased design freedom with complex 3D effects directly from the machine
Reduction in production steps and improved manufacturing efficiency
Impact
Reduced production time and costs through seamless manufacturing
Enabled just-in-time and more sustainable production models
Demonstrated the potential of seamless technology in fashion/lifestyle beyond activewear
My Role
Led the project from concept creation to product development and commercialization, bridging design, technology, and business.
Defined the product vision and innovation concept, identifying the opportunity within denim and athleisure
Acted as key interface between design and technical teams, ensuring feasibility within seamless knitting constraints
Oversaw product development and machine implementation, aligning structure, yarn selection, and performance targets
Contributed to positioning the product for market relevance, translating technical innovation into consumer value
Ensured alignment across design, engineering, and production to deliver a scalable solution
