Overview
NUIG Dramsoc is a bustling society which produces multiple shows per year as well as multiple other events. Managing these productions and ensuring their success is a key role in the success of the organisation.
My Role
As Productions Manager my role was to produce the all productions for NUIG Dramsoc for the 21/22 academic year. This consisted of 5 full length plays and 1 full length musical, 3 of these productions further progressed onto a national theatre festival. There were many aspects to this role including:
- Project Management
- Ensuring the Health and Safety of participants
- Organising licensing agreements for performances
- Generating and document control system for future years
Project Management
Each of the 6 shows consisted of individual productions teams, each show also had an individual set of deadlines and unique tech requirements. As productions manager I ensured these deadlines were met and all tech requirements for each production were fulfilled in a timely manner. I ensured this by:
- Generating individualised timelines to each production team with clearly outlined deadline and templates for safety documents that needed to be filled in.
- Outlining expectations, responsibilities, and budget clearly at the start of each production in an introductory meeting to ensure all participants were on the same page.
- Weekly touch-base with each team to discuss progress and any issues they may be encountering.
- Liaising with external organisations to acquire any extra tech or specific requirements for a production.
My role also involved ensuring all members of the committee managing the society were aware of the progress of each production in weekly updates.
Health and Safety
I was instrumental in maintaining health and safety of participants while taking part in productions, this was ensured by:
- Ensuring Medical Forms and Risk Assessments were completed prior to beginning tech rehearsals as well as detailed plans for the days to ensure everyone was on the same page
- Monitoring Covid-19 Guidelines and communicating these to all productions teams to ensure cast safety.
- Offering a space for production team members and cast to come to and discuss any issues they may be having and work towards a resolution for any conflicts during the process.
