Tillak: A Landing Page Built for Outdoor Gear That Actually Gets Worn
Client: Tillak — outdoor hats and headwear (Wallowa Camp Hat, Chamisa Sun Hat, Vista Hat), B-Corp certified, 1% For The Planet member
Role: Landing Page Design
Result: Newly launched — performance data pending
The Challenge
Tillak sells a product category most shoppers don't think hard about hats in a market where function, durability, and real-world use matter more than trend. The landing page needed to make a functional outdoor product feel worth a considered purchase, prove it holds up to real use (trails, camping, ultra races), and reflect the brand's values (B-Corp, 1% For The Planet) without turning the page into a mission statement instead of a store.
The Approach
Hero — A Specific Product, Not a Generic Category The page opens with "The Chamisa Sun Hat" tagged "Back in Stock," shown in genuine use — a hiker wearing it in tall grass, mid-adventure. Leading with a specific, in-demand product (rather than "Shop Hats") gives the page urgency and specificity from the first screen, while the real-use photography immediately signals this is functional gear, not a fashion accessory.
Explore Hats Grid — Letting Specs Do the Selling The product grid (Wallowa Camp Hat, Wallowa Trail Hat, Chamisa Sun Hat, Vista Hat) pairs each product with concrete functional tags — "Five-panel cat," "Lightweight nylon," "Stretch mesh sides," "Hideable neck shade," "Laser-cut ventilation" — rather than generic marketing adjectives. For a durability-focused, function-first shopper, these specific feature tags do more purchase-decision work than lifestyle copy alone. Status badges (Most Popular, New, Sale) on top products add fast, scannable social proof and urgency without cluttering the layout.
Rating & Review Counts on Every Card Star ratings with visible review counts (4.6 (164), 4.9 (23), etc.) sit directly on every product tile, keeping trust signals present throughout browsing rather than requiring a click into each product page to find them.
Featured Testimonial — Proof of Real-World Durability A named customer testimonial ("This hat has been through so many miles on trails, two ultra races, and numerous camping trips") is paired with large lifestyle photography and a direct "Shop the Camp Hat" CTA. Placing a durability-specific testimonial — with a name and star rating — directly next to a shoppable product answers the exact question a function-first shopper has: does this actually hold up?
Instagram UGC Grid — Community Proof at Scale A tiled grid of real customer photos under #ExploreConserveEnjoy and @TILLAKGOODS shows the product in use across many different people and settings, reinforcing that this is a genuinely used, community-backed product rather than one relying on staged studio photography alone.
Footer — Values as a Quiet, Confident Detail B-Corp certification and 1% For The Planet badges sit in the footer, stated plainly rather than made into a homepage centerpiece — letting values-conscious shoppers find and appreciate this detail without it distracting from the core product-and-proof structure of the page above.
Fully Responsive Across Every Device The design holds its hierarchy and readability across desktop, tablet, and mobile — important for an outdoor brand whose customers are often researching gear while already out on a trail or trip.
Visual & Brand Direction Clean black-and-white typography and UI elements let the product photography and its natural, outdoor color palette carry the visual identity — keeping the page feeling rugged and authentic rather than overly polished or corporate.
The Outcome
The landing page has just launched, so performance data isn't available yet. Structurally, it was built to answer the specific questions an outdoor-gear shopper has before buying — does this fit my use case, does it actually hold up, and do real people use it — through concrete product specs, durability-focused testimonials, and genuine community photography rather than lifestyle marketing alone.
Want a landing page that proves your product holds up before anyone reads a word of copy? Let's talk.
